Lady Gaga - Mayhem

Not actually given my thoughts yet, but one aspect I suspect people have overlooked in all of the excitement is how unequivocally GOOD it is for ME personally. Yes, me. Me me me. I am obsessed, possessed, abscessed to the extent that it almost feels suspicious that you are all claiming that it's resonating with you too. Very convenient that isn't it. I suppose you all just happen to be into toenail kintsugi now as well? Hmm.

Indeed, I find it particularly gratifying that this (and Disease) revisit The Gaga Song Structure and Hook Style of Old so comprehensively and have largely been greeted with acclaim (and positivity) for it, given that choice has typically been met with dismissals or at least aspersions of the "Bad Romance rip off, ain't you that rah rah--, where's the evolution" variety, even among fans (at first). Justice for Judas! Vengeance for Venus! A structure or hook style being too much like the structure or hook style that SHE HERSELF perfected on one of the best pop songs of all time was always a critique that chafed my taints, frankly. And with Abra and Disease it feels like she's finally not only agreeing with me on that, but actively responding to the critique with, yes, and that's Miss rah-rah bitch to you. C'est délicieux, slurp slurp.

There’s a great interview here with Parris about the video and future plans.
Parris is such a great collaborator for Gargoyle. Love how she confirms that there are a lot of hidden meanings in the video, and her saying she knows Gargoyle's body of work front to back because she's a big fan. I feel like there's a mutual admiration there that really enhances results. And that entire part about caring for the dancers and going the extra mile to ensure safety and health at all points... Stuff like that should obviously always be a given, but we've come such a long way. Love talented professionals!

This portion is really interesting—I think it’s easy to hear the struggle she went through 2018-2020 and see the video as a battle between Stefani and Gaga, but I think there’s something more nuanced and universal about it portraying ego/ambition vs. the naive id. The shadow vs. the self (stream Collxtion I!) for the Jungpilled amongst us.

I also can’t say I caught that there was a rebirth happening in the bridge until now, but it makes sense. Mother has her favorite visual metaphors.

I just don't really see a problem with that being a through line of her career if it's done well. It can be as simple as "Don't Call Me Gaga" or getting changed onstage and stripping down to her natural hair. Even 2/3 of her filmography is tapping into this idea.

Japanese deluxe edition tracklist

EDIT: looks like the bonus track comes after Die With A Smile, 3 word title, maybe the same as Target: Kill For Love (?)

Fuck, I want this one. Where do I buy it? The usual suspects? (CDJapan / YesAsia, expensive shipping etc?)
