She'll be off singing "MANiCURE" on tour for most of the fall anyway.

I'd be here for this if it weren't for Tony Bennett. Eugh. If it's produced well (which I doubt), it could still be great.

  3. Re: Lady Gaga & Tony Bennett - Cheek To Cheek

Gaga denied that the album was ever supposed to be released in January or any other date announced before. It seems she only recorded demos for it last July and they've only just been finishing it up this past week. It was their secret weapon for when things went to shit, basically.

You realize this is Gaga we're talking about. She shut down Times Square for a music video.

That's kind of what I wanted from her all along (minus Tony Bennett) so I'm pretty happy.

  5. Re: Lady Gaga & Tony Bennett - Cheek To Cheek

I have never enjoyed Gaga's ballads, let alone jazzy, turgid, show tunes so rest assured, this will not be welcome in my Gaga collection.

Oh I'm excited for this. The general public will eat this up. Great and interesting move!

I'm interested in the album but am I the only one who thinks the title should be saved for a second jazz album with Bennet? Cheek 2 Cheek anyone?

You're literally the only person thinking of a second jazz album in any way.

Oh, a new Lady Gaga thread? I look forward to this gaining 1,000 pages per night.

I'm actually very intrigued by this album. Her voice is unbelievable and I wouldn't mind hearing it in a less...busy...format.

August - January would be a little bit excessive. That's longer than she paid attention to ARTPOP.

One of the general Rules Of Gaga is that wherever Gaga goes, meltdowns will follow.

I'm ready for a jazz version of Government Hooker, with Tony doing the 'back up and turn around' parts.

    Troy, leave Lady Gaga alone

  13. Re: Lady Gaga & Tony Bennett - Cheek To Cheek

    This is rather odd.

Now if only Gaga would pay homage to Ginger Rogers' iconic feather gown on the album cover.

It wouldn't be a constant stream as far as I know. She has some Fall covers lined up, which should be released sometime throughout August/September. I imagine the album will be out in November with a "single" and video out shortly before. A couple performances afterwards, another single, and then the campaign is over. Assuming they don't want to embark on a casino tour.

There's something amusing about how such a harmless release like Cheek to Cheek can ignite such furor. Based on previous events (see Gaga's 2011 Thanksgiving special), we know she is more than capable of delivering the goods and making it fantastic, even in the campiest, silliest moments. Besides, this seems more like a mainstream kind of album anyway, tailor-made for the critics and the many who are always commenting on how amazing her toned-down abilities are. I get she's a massive pop star and isn't complete without a gaggle of back-up dancers, colorful lasers, and wild costumes, but I'm also very curious to see how she'll do with just her voice alongside that of a living legend.

  17. Re: Lady Gaga & Tony Bennett - Cheek To Cheek

All these histrionics for an album of covers.

  18. Re: Lady Gaga & Tony Bennett - Cheek To Cheek

I don't think it's fair to reduce this to a 'covers album.' Doing an album of jazz standards is considerably different than releasing an album full of pop covers. It's a staple in jazz culture, and quite frankly, will probably work a lot better than Gaga trying to write her own jazz music. But discrediting it for being a 'cover album' is kind of the same as knocking a hip-hop record for using sampling. It's just part of the genre/culture and to be expected. Not to mention the fact that this is an album of standards has in no way been a secret for almost a year now.

  19. Re: Lady Gaga & Tony Bennett - Cheek To Cheek

I think we need to be careful with terminology. Tony has done jazz. He's also done "standards" (of the traditional pop variety) along with swing and broadway.

There is also such a thing as "jazz standards" but I wouldn't describe 'The Lady Is A Tramp' as that. It's more of a show tune given a swing arrangement.

I think if it's going to be more of the same, it's likely to be quite poppy, swing versions of the American song book as opposed to anything much more impenetrable. He's collaborating with a mainstream pop star with broad appeal - so to make an album without that broad appeal would be counter productive.

I'm at least intrigued by this. Depending on what voice she adopts, it has the potential to sound great. I'm guessing the black hair is all something for this mini-era as well?

Hopefully it works out well for her and she continues to write behind the scenes. Really, I just want to move on from ARTPOP and it's wasted potential. A new album very soon after this would be nice.
