Lady Gaga

She's done so many amazing stripped down performances - even of songs that seemed impossible to perform in that form - that it's distressing to see her sounding so bad in such an inspid song

So it kinda seems like the consensus is that people who already liked the song didn't like the performance and people who didn't care for the song liked the performance.
Nn I just popped in to say I finally watched the performance and actually kinda dug it. Raw and gritty, just how I like it.

Beautiful

This is gorgeous and I wish it was the version that was performed, the piano and her voice are completely in harmony. I liked the band version but its stripped down-ness was a bit... showy. This feels more organic and natural.

She's already done the "piano performance in full makeup" shtick twice now for the Oscars (one of which is their highest viewed performance of all time). I've grown to appreciate the stripped-down version. It's not exciting for us long term fans, but she's continuing to showcase her versatility.

It's wild to think about how many times she's performed for the Academy in the past decade. The talentry!

The Cure randomly came on at my job the other day and I was like "Oh, yeah". I always forget about it even though it's a favorite. I also love that she gave it to us randomly on it's own from the ASIB sessions, I guess. Like thank you for the delicious crumb.

I like The Cure but I better not see anyone who drags Chromatica praising it, don't play with me. The context of it being a ~pop~ surprise single during the Joanne era + Coachella certainly colored its perception, but if it was like, track 9 on Chromatica y'all wouldn't hesitate for a second to lump it in with the rest.

Absolutely. If she made an entire album of The Cures it would be dragged as "basic" and "dated" just like Chromatica was. Hell, the Cure basically ripped BloodPop's tropibop sound and we know how the fandom at large feels about him.
