Lana Del Rey - Did you know that there's a tunnel under Ocean Blvd

I'm very lenient with these things but that interlude is an instantly delete for me. The second one is... fine.
Very beautiful album on first listen, but I need time to properly differentiate some of the slower, freeform tracks. I really liked Kintsugi, Grandfather and Sweet. The latter reminds me of the Over the Garden Wall soundtrack for some reason ddd

I love this album. I am so excited to listen more. It's definitely a similar feeling after my first listen to Norman Fucking Rockwell, that this feels immense and important but that there's a lot to tease apart. It's so fascinating to trace her evolution. This current weary folk singer incarnation is probably my favorite. So many threads from her other records end up here, but the combination of piano and strings is especially striking on Did you know. In her Tori Amos bag, I fear.

I know she's mentioned him as an influence before, but something about the chaotic nature of this album really makes me think of the direction Jeff Buckley was going in during the sessions for My Sweetheart The Drunk.

That’s an interesting callout. During the making of this album she made an IG post of herself swimming in the Mississippi River, which is where Jeff drowned years ago (captioned “Lana: 1, Mississippi River: 0”). It could be unrelated, but maybe he was an influence?

Catching hints of “Tell Him” melodically in “Grandfather…”

I think “The Grants” being the opener is such a disservice because emotionally? It’s giving peak Lana in terms of realism and mortality in such a tender way.

I’m obsessed with the whole thing to be honest.
The devastating tender beauty of ‘Kintsugi’.
The sinister, haunting atmosphere of ‘Candy Necklace’.
The cycling-through-Montmatre whimsy of ‘Paris, Texas’.
The instant Lana classics that are ‘Grandfather…’ and ‘Sweet’.
“Siiiiiiii-iiiiii-iiiii-ing. In a minor keeeey”.
Fishtail! Taco Truck!

‘Let The Light In’ is the most accessible and would make a nice single.
‘Peppers’ also feels like it could be a moment.
