Lana Del Rey - Ultraviolence

I feel a little worried about Lana. She has said she wishes she was dead, and then she said that weird stuff about being in a cult. I hope she doesn't become a Marilyn Monroe.

Oh come on.

Everybody has a death wish sometimes.

I think her feelings of solitude and death are part of her act and people connect with her so well because they are recognizable and easy to connect with, just not something that is always accepted by society.

Good - Ultraviolence, West Coast (it's grown on me!), Pretty When You Cry, Money Power Glory, Fucked My Way Up To The Top, Old Money

Meh - Cruel World, Shades of Cool, Brooklyn Baby, Sad Girl, The Other Women, Black Beauty, Guns and Roses, Florida Kilos, Is This Happiness

This in no way beats Born To Die/Paradise. A lot of it is just meh/background music but there's a few great tracks. I can see the album in general being a grower but there's no denying it can't quite live up to previous expectations.

It's really amazing what a change of producer will do. The melodies in Ultraviolence are very Lana - Brooklyn Baby's chorus has the same exact chord progression as the Summertime Sadness chorus - it's just that the good people of this forum aren't the usual target of the bluesy rock sound.

Lana has always said some of the most ridiculous things and is always contradicting herself. She is putting on this strange little show for everyone (without being "fake"). Its like she just projects her own inspirations onto her own life.

LOVING this album right now. Its a little more of a return to the AKA/Nevada album sound - her best album IMO.

I am really liking this, however I'm scared this is definitely not the time for this album for me. (I got a promotion, getting married to my long time love, summer time, yadda yadda) The songs sound like they could just scream perfection with the right overcast day, a bit of humidity and a healthy dose of deep thoughts.

Also a little mary jane.

Forgive me for being late/ignorant, but where does West Coast rate in the context of the whole album? West Coast is incredible so if Ultraviolence is of that same quality, I'll buy myself a copy.

This is weird saying this, but it's one of the most forgettable songs on the album. And I absolutely LOVE West Coast, but somehow, every other song is just....so much better.

I just wanted a few pop choruses. Some Blue Jeans, National Anthem...Ride. All these songs mesh together besides Brooklyn Baby and West Coast.
