Lana Del Rey - Ultraviolence

A song similar to "Video Games" or "Ride," even of similar quality, would have been a huge disappointment. I'm not entirely sold on "West Coast" just yet, though the chorus has already grown on me massively. I'm just glad she changed things up. I don't think I could bear another album in the vein of Born to Die or Paradise, even as spectacular as both are.

Its growing on me. I love the chorus, I just wish it and the verses went together a bit better. I do like the sort of lazy summer vibe it has going.

Anyway like someone else pointed out a page or two ago- Lana isn't a popstar. She's not aiming for the big radio smash to move her album.

For those expecting a crisp mid-tempo for lead single: have we forgotten that Lana's first single, and one of her highest charting ones - Video Games - was a torch ballad? One with a chorus yes, but its tempo was hardly rousing.

This psychedelic rock-chick mixed with classic Lana influences thing is the perfect progression and I am beyond excited for Ultraviolence now.

Good god, her voice just gets to me. I noticed the high-pitched "woo" in the background of the chorus a few listens ago and it's everything. I love the layered effect as well. I'm not finding her entirely difficult to understand; the only bit I'm confused on is what exactly her man has got burning.

I love that Lana's still not over repeating herself lyrically. "Queens of Saigon".

Does she really sing "I can see my sweet boy swaying / He's crazy y Cubano como yo, my love" in the chorus? If so, amazing.

Officially love the whole song now. I can't see it doing anything in terms of radio play and would love to be proven wrong but who really cares about that, it's clear that's not something she's going for.

Why didn't they ever release the Blue Jeans remixes? (Gesaffelstein or Penguin Prison) They're much better than Summertime Sadness one.

The Smims & Belle remix for release please, absolutely amazing.

West Coast is... Eh. It's fairly above average but there's nothing mind blowing about it.

Will it be on UK iTunes at midnight or, like some rush-released singles, something random like 9am or 10pm tomorrow?

Hope so, unless they are planning to hold off for a few weeks like they usually do with new releases in the UK.

I like it, it's a bit hard to get an opinion though since I don't know what to make of it properly.

Apparently it's definitely going to be up tomorrow

Not impressed on first listen. It's all a bit "Tori Amos album filler". Maybe it'll work better in an album context.

Great song, if very Gods & Monsters. I keep thinking it's about to turn into a slow version of Atomic when the chorus gets ushered in with that guitar!
