Lana Del Rey - Ultraviolence

Why are people wanting for her to go back to her hip-hop influenced sound? I love Off To The Races, and I would gladly take more of that. But she has clearly been moving away from it. Paradise, Young and Beautiful... She is obviously more invested in this guitar heavy understated sound at the moment.

Because they prefer it. Are you looking for a deeper answer than that?

I get that people prefer it, I also love it, but there are no signs pointing at this style being used again, in any way. It's setting yourself up for disappointment when she does not "deliver".

I have to be honest nothing I've heard so far has the replay value of the songs from Born to Die or Paradise. But then we've only heard three songs. I won't be happy until I have that one song that I fall completely in love with and have to listen to 50 times in a row.

I just hope there is no digital only bonus this time around. It drives me nuts that Burning Desire has no home in my collection.

Edit: I see their is one, "Is This Happiness". Praying that the JP edition collects all the bonuses.

The styling has been so off, I don't get it? The Urban Outfitters T SHIRTS are so not the album cover look, boo.

I'm convinced she's not a very visual artist, going by her recent interviews it seems that the glamour during Born to Die was conditioned by ... someone else.

I don't think the styling is off. There's this whole Hope Sandoval circa 1993/Death Proof girl vibe going on that is great, but the album cover fails to portray it. The other promotional pictures we've seen so far are slightly more striking, even the ridiculously #softgrunge knee pic.

I read that she said something like that wasn't the real her or the artist she wanted to be or something to that effect. I hate when artists do that. "That last album wasn't want I wanted. This album is THE REAL ME". Yawn.

I'm IN LOVE with Shades Of Cool. I also love the back cover... only the proper front cover i really don't like 'cos is boring Lana in a bad way. I can't wait for Ultraviolence. I just know it's gonna knock me out.

It's all very neither here nor there. I don't miss the glamour by any means, and I'm glad she's switching it up. It would be nice if there was a little bit more effort put into it. I think a grunge looks suits her but it just looks a little cheap.

If anything, Lana's main defense regarding her "styling" has been how she's constantly evolving. It doesn't mean she's disowning any of her previous work whatsoever, but rather implying that it's not going to always be the same thing. If she wants to drop the high fashion look & go for something a little more casual & relaxed, so be it.

I can hear some Tales of Us era Goldfrapp in Shades of Cool but Hollywood is very VERY Goldfrapp in ever way.

That's because Tales of Us (and Goldfrapp's music in general) is very 70s-inspired and so is Lana Del Rey's recent output. I doubt she'd draw inspiration from one of Goldfrapp's lesser known albums. Or Goldfrapp in general. I don't know why, but she doesn't seem to be keen on that type of music (""""electronica""").

I wonder what kind of music Lana actually listens to? It seems to me that she isn't very insterested in brand new pop music in general except hip-hop; A$AP Rocky, The Weeknd and that kind of stuff. I remember her 'inspiration' section on Facebook circa 2011 cited Elvis Presley, Frank Sinatra and Britney Spears.

She seems like she'd love Bob Dylan and The Velvet Underground and whatever else hipsters are into. I think she said once that she loves "the greats of every genre" or something like that. She doesn't listen to lots of female artists. I remember her saying that when she said she loved Britney.
