This is such a wonderful area for pedantry. Germans use the singular, with no possibility of plural; French use the plural, but can have it in singular too. So who can tell what's best for English?

Didn't do anything photographable yesterday night.

Maths comes from Mathematics, the Greek word Mathimatika (also plural) so I guess Maths wins?

So that's how you read μαθηματικός?!

The plural seems better to me, but since the German-speakers have been so bloody good at maths in the last few centuries (think Gauss, Euler, Bernoulli...) one maybe shouldn't disregard their take on it.
