This is such a wonderful area for pedantry. Germans use the singular, with no possibility of plural; French use the plural, but can have it in singular too. So who can tell what's best for English?

So that's how you read μαθηματικός?!

The plural seems better to me, but since the German-speakers have been so bloody good at maths in the last few centuries (think Gauss, Euler, Bernoulli...) one maybe shouldn't disregard their take on it.

Last night I got drunk and ended up kissing a friend's ex-wife, to discover she was only snogging me to make someone else jealous - but this other bloke doesn't even acknowledge she exists, so she began crying.

I really shouldn't get involved in these dramas.
