Leona Lewis

Just heard I Am on the radio for the first time. Still kinda speechless that this is the third single now with essentially the exact same lyrics? So boring.

The album's out in now under two weeks. There is very little hype. I think promo singles is the least they could be doing...

It's pointless though, this album isn't going to go anywhere. Leona has an amazing voice but she's a shitty popstar with no personality. I mean, I'm sure she has one but she keeps it well hidden. She just got really lucky with Bleeding Love.

I loved her first two albums but Leona's days of number one albums are over especially with the same old, same old she's releasing - I Am is a song that would've sat comfortably on her debut. I would love her to prove me wrong though.

I still think her best up-tempo track is Sugar from a vocal strand point. The way her voice works perfectly alongside the instrumental is exceptional. That should have been the blue print for this albums vocal approach.

I do have to agree her vocals have been less than stellar but only in comparison to how high quality they usually are. I'll keep saying it over and over again but Echo was such a powerful and dramatic album, taking everything she's trying to do here and perfecting it. 'My Hands' in particular is that cinematic, orchestral, vocally perfect piece that just showcases what she can achieve. It obviously didn't have the bops that the casual fans wanted, but she's shown here she wants to go for that adult contemporary sound and Echo had that in spades.

I honestly think she'll never better Echo. It's epic. The vocals, the production, the melodies - all incredible. It's so underrated.

I actually wouldn't be surprised if I Am does go to #1. On a bad week you can get there with 20k and Will Young got there recently under similar circumstances. But I'd expect it to drop quickly.

Based on the tracks that have been released, "I Am" seems really lackluster compared to her previous "stuck in Syco prison" albums. She's still a great vocalist, but this album isn't going to be replayed over and over again. Hardcore fans will buy it, but otherwise.. the sales are not going to be pretty.

I Am has more single material than Echo in my opinion.

I think some of you keep forgetting Leona invested in this album, you can't compare to previous albums which are all invested by the label. Leona isn't going to spend 100k on each song or spend the amount of money a label would do. Also, this album won't have huge sales aka Spirit but that isn't the point of this era at all. They're focusing on longevity instead of huge week 1 sales to only bomb the second week. They'll be getting her out there as much as possible so she isn't out of public's eye when she drops her next album, which then should be selling more than this because of their strategy now.

I'm not forgetting anything, but none of that automatically qualifies I Am to be better. Based on the lackluster material we've heard so far, and considering we've heard most of the album now, I can say that it's nowhere even close to Echo, to my ears. I can't see how the amount of money spent is relevant either. A good song is a good song.

As much as it pains me to write this I doubt Leona could even pull that off these days unless it was heavily discounted. Will Young still has a lot of hardcore fans who will buy anything he releases, I don't think Leona does really.

Echo is my favourite of all three albums so far, but there's something about I Am (album) that makes me like that even more. I don't know what it is, maybe because it's all new now but I do prefer some songs over Echo already.

About the money, I don't know though. If each session is an amount of money/day then she probably will go faster over to next song instead of spending 3 extra days for production only. If label would have paid the sessions then she'd obviously perfected the songs. I think most of the songs really are good but lack that extra touch.

But for now I'm jamming to those songs though

Either way for her next album, in my opinion, she can keep writing because I genuinely think her writing is good BUT I want different writers and producers. I think one producer and 1 co-writer kinda limit their ideas if they're doing a full album

I don't think this is going to be my favourite album judging by what we have heard so far, I think its will probably rank 3rd behind Echo then Spirit, but I do still like what we have heard so far, just wish some of the production was better on some songs.

I think my biggest issue is it's been solely produced by Toby Gad bar a couple of songs, which Leona may have chosen originally for financial reasons, being she recorded most of this album unsigned and they were friends. I don't rate him that highly as a producer, he has had a couple of great moments, but his production here has fallen short imo. I wish if she were set on a one producer album it could have been Ryan Tedder, but I get he was busy so it wasn't possible, but honestly if this album somehow does well enough to convince Island to invest in her and make another album then I hope she'll work with several producers and writers.

Also Leona said on twitter on Friday that they have started pencilling in dates for a tour early next year.

Also I became a huge fan of Leona because of her ballads, but she hasn't given me a great ballad since Echo, except Your Hallelujah which I love.

I highly doubt she'll get a number 1 release week, she has some competition from Iron Maiden the week before and other releases that week are Bring Me The Horizon, Stereophonics and Duran Duran. Now I don't really follow album charts normally, but those were picked out as likely to beat her that week on another forum.

I think she'll definitely manage Top 10, and maybe Top 5 but most importantly I just want some longevity.

Edit: Also the album has been pushed back a week in Germany to the 18th of September, presumably because they want her over there to promote it during release week. I am happy about this, its always been her second biggest market outside of the UK, so it makes sense for them to spend some time out there.

At least they'll keep promoting up until Christmas and not drop it like Syco did. I'm not expecting high sales but if they can keep it selling until Christmas it should do a decent amount.

I just want the album out already, I'm interested in seeing how they handle the next single.

She can promote all she wants with her sub-par material but the public will not be here for it I think. She failed to hit anything basically.

I still think she'll have some cracking tunes on this album judging by the snippets and live performances.

If they were to release several more singles then I would do it this way,

1. I Got You
2. Ladders
3. Another Love Song
4. Thunder/Deluxe track maybe

I still think if they can somehow get radio on board with the next single, which should be I Got You, then the material left actually sounds stronger than the songs we have already had and could revitalise the campaign, but its going to be hard.

Also with the usage of Leona on the show yesterday and Simon even tweeting about her success tonight, then I still hold out hope for a performance slot on the show.

@Cherylofficial had them last year but I've not mentored the girls since Leona, and look what happened! #SimonGirls
