Leona Lewis

Question: is Island purposely failing Leona or is Leona failing herself? "I Am" should be renamed, "I Am Not Sure How to Make a Proper Comeback".

Well one thing I think we need to stop in this thread is that this campaign isn't being run correctly? They've stumbled a few times, of course, but it's only because the main commercial radio's aren't even looking her way. I could have told her that before she came back but they've corrected course now and everything is aimed at the mature Radio 2 artist because - shocker - they're the only main radio station supporting her. This audience doesn't typically support singles (Jessie Ware, Gabrielle Aplin, Foxes, Paloma Faith, Florence and the Machine) regardless.

I think the problem with the singles (and the songs in the album in general) is that now a days all mainstream songs you hear on the radio are up-tempo tracks. Leona's songs are all mid-tempo or epic-wannabe-ballads...she needs to change sounds. A track like "Outta My Head" would do amazing now a days. Max Martin is the most wanted producer today, I'm sure a track like that would cost fortunes today.

Love Me Like You Do, the Sam Smith singles, The Weeknd, say hi

Listening to my self-made Best Of playlist and wondering where it all went wrong.

Happy's coming up soon so maybe my answer will be there.

I just hope she's truly happy with small successes but out from SYCO, and it wasn't a 'grass is always greener' scenario.

The grass is greener because she didn't leave Syco for success but to be the artist she wanted to be.

Yeah blabla she wants success too, but that's not her main thing

That's a complete misdiagnosis of the situation. All you hear are uptempos? Are you kidding? Midtempos do well, Leona's just aren't good enough.

They've accepted her delivery of the weakest album she's ever done with no hits on it. That's the biggest and worst mistake.

They heard most of the album before they signed her, don't even go there. Most of you are clueless about what Island and DefJam have in store for Leona (not talking about promo, but her career in general) unfortunately, but lemme just sit back and watch the meltdowns for nothing

If you're gonna dribble on about your right to think this is her best album because she DID IT HERSELF OHMYGED then we're quite right to talk about it not actually being very good

This has absolutely nothing to do with whether this album is good or not. And no way I'm trying to change your opinion and act like my opinion is the only right one.

I'm just excited to see how things progress over the next few months. I know many here think she'll debut relatively well week one then drop like a stone never to recover, but I am interested to see if Island have a long term plan and wait and see how Def Jam handle things in America. Plus Fire Under My Feet is slowly picking up radio play in Germany and she'll probably be going over to promote there soon enough too.

There is much more to look forward to than just the UK side of things and I can't wait.

The optimism is too much to handle. Guys there are no hits yet. I will eat my hat if there are any hits.

It is not about hits, which 90% here are so obsessed with. This album may not have hits but that's not the point. DefJam and Island have lots of plans with her career but typical Popjustice they jump ship when things aren't looking good and spurt bullsh*t of something they have no knowledge of.

Hunny, things aren't looking good. Barely anyone in the real would knows or cares that Leona Lewis is making music again. My plans for her career are to just watch it, thank you very much, because I can't imagine her being all over the place like 'Bleeding Love' again or a minor radio staple.

How long as Leona been around, almost 10 years? She's only done two tours in all that time. In my opinion she has done very little in that time to build up a solid fanbase in her own country. I don't think her core fanbase is as big as her fans on here think.
