Leona Lewis

He/Him/His
Isn't the acoustic 'I Am' just stripped down to piano, vocals and strings? I'm glad it's not 'I Am (Stripped)' because Xtina has that song title but still... Is it really acoustic?

The snippets sound great, I am especially loving You Knew Me When, Thank You and I Got You in HQ.

Also loving the deluxe tracks.

Really looking forward to having this in full on Friday - the snippets sound brilliant. Ladders sounds fantastic. I wish there was more hype and interest around the album, but ultimately it's great to have new music from Leona.

The snippets sound good. It all sounds decent in HQ.
Thick Skin is going to be my bop. I can already tell. Ladders is already my bop. Even though I don't think she quite got it right with this album, there's tiny of glimmers of what potential she does have on this album that I hope are explored even more on the next album. And ultimately home girl needed to make this album for herself so I'm glad she has.

I've listened to all the snippets and eh, still disappointed. Too many songs which don't appear to go anywhere (from the ones we've heard in full) and too much motivational shit.

Leona really doesn't have much to say, does she? Writing and making the album she wants is alright if you actually have something to write about. But all this triumphing over adversity shite wrapped up in clichés is uninteresting. Poor Leona, she's so freaking boring.

I'll still give the album a listen though out of respect for Spirit and Echo. Since my expectations are in the gutter, I'll be happy if I like even one song.

Have you been personally victimised by Leona Lewis? Genuine question.

Ignorance is a bliss I guess

Everything I've heard so far is alright, but I struggle to make it through any given song. I remember when we only had that video of her performing part of Fire Under My Feet. It was spellbinding and therefore I was expecting magic and now it's turning out to be pedestrian. I'll give the album a chance though because I like Leona and her vegetarian ways.

Yes. By this shite she thinks is good enough to release.

Look, I like Leona. I don't think she has much in the way of star quality but she has a nice voice and Echo/Spirit are great albums. As a popstar though she is boring with very little to say if these songs are anything to go by. For me, it's disappointing. It's not like I want her to fail since vocally she's one of the most talented women in pop, her voice is beautiful and it's such a waste on subpar material.

Come on - shoveller is being very fair. I've liked all her previous albums but torn my hair out at single choices. Everything we have heard this time is just a bit dull, and not even maximising the one thing that makes her stand out - her voice. You Knew Me When sounds promising. Everything else, not so much. The lesson is clearly that she is not a songwriter. Next album, send her somewhere they know what to do with her because this freedom she is enjoying so much is not bearing fruit.

Toby Gad has co-written almost every song. Are you saying the If I Were a Boy/ All of Me writer should stop writing too? Or Linda Prevens, the Listen (Beyonce) songwriter? There are very good lyrics in the songs.

This album is all about her leaving a situation where she wasn't happy about, where she had no opportunity to be the artist she wants. How hypocrite would it have been if DJ/Island sent her songs and producers for her first album? She picked the lead single Fire Under My Feet to make a statement. It describes perfectly why she recorded this album. Another Love Song doesn't, Ladders doesn't ...

And to be honest, you need to give her credit. This is her first album where she had the chance to develop herself as an artist, she's learning. I Am has more single worthy singles than Echo and Glassheart combined. On top of that she co wrote it herself.

Just so I can do some comparisons, does anyone have any sales figures for all of her other albums? I want to see how big her decline is going to be.

Who is she as an artist though? All I've gathered from her in this era is that she's still hasn't shown any personality and her songs are boring. Like I said before, it was dumb for her to make an album centered around empowerment because most of the songs have the same lyrical content. It's like listening to the same song with different beats. She can write, but she's not the strongest and would have benefited from a stronger writing partner.

Toby Gad's most recent hit was John Legend's "All of Me" (cheesy AF, btw), but if you look at his discography.. he has worked the most with teeny boppers. Not sure if that's a strong selling point. Leona would have been better off with Ryan Tedder, but I'm sure she thought that working with him would go against her new found freedom.

She can deceive herself into thinking that this album is her strongest work to date, but I'm sure the lack of interest (and sales) will give her a massive wake up call. Do better, Leona!

I do think if Leona were to work with anyone, it should have been Tedder. An album full of Bleeding Love's, Glassheart's, Happy's....

I'm not keen on Toby Gad's production quality.
