Leona Lewis

Ah ok, that’s tough. Though like Kelly with a bit of training she could surely get back to near what she had before.
I seriously doubt that will ever be possible. Leona's voice deteriorated over several years, with very little signs of improvement ever since. Her voice can sound extremely damaged sometimes and she has almost no access to her full belting register anymore.

I think with Leona, chronic fatigue has been a byproduct of her thyroid issues, which causes her to be prone to illness. All of these things will just have a constant negative impact on her voice.

We also need to consider that she never needs to work again. In her hayday she was massive, and she secured a lot of private gigs, and still does to this day as far as I’m aware.

Any single/album she does (if ever) put out would be for the fans. She is not stupid and would be internally aware that global superstardom days are beyond her. I don’t say this to be doom mongering but just tempering and being realistic with our expectations.

Between Echo and I Am, I thought we got some incredible material. Her leaked library is exasperating in missed opportunities. It’s honestly quite sad how horribly she was mismanaged.

I didn't know there was so much unreleased material. I'll have to look for it, since I haven't listened to anything beyond the official releases.

She did record a new song for "Argylle" that wasn't used in the movie, right? Never heard of that anymore.

Anyway, I repeat: "Glass Heart" is a masterpiece and it didn't grab my attention when it was released, but I'm glad I discovered it later cause it's outstanding. Most artists wished they had an album like that, and Leona has.

Has she ever commented on her voice, was she ill or something?

Yeah she has Hashimoto's diseas which can cause vocal chord issues including vocal chord paralysis. Ultimately it's all speculation as she has never actually publicly acknowledged her vocal issues.

She has spoken about the disease itself and although she did start on traditional western medications she made the decision to go completely natural as the side effects on western medicine were too much for her, that may be a contributing reason.

She has spoken about her Hashimoto's disease diagnosis. It's not necessarily a direct link between that and her voice deteriorating (Kelly Clarkson also had a diagnosis widely acknowledged to be Hashimoto's, and her voice is stronger than it ever was before). But Leona has spoken about how ill she felt.

Not that I'm a medical professional either, but Leona also has been open about using only natural remedies to treat her condition and is very self-care conscious, so I'm not sure if she ever received actual medical treatment for it.

I have seen a few people post about Kelly having Hashimoto's disease but can't actually find anywhere that actually quotes Kelly, only ever seen her say she has an autoimmune disease.

Yes, it's one of those umbrella conditions where a whole range of autoimmune diseases linked specifically to the thyroid are just all bundled under Hashimoto's. But you're right, Kelly hasn't specifically said that, only that it's a thyroid issue.

Leona keeps posting quotes online about tough times in life etc. Seems like she's having a few personal struggles - hope she's okay :-/

With the olympics currently happening, I was reminded of Leona performing with Jimmy Page at the 2008 olympics and it’s crazy to think she got that opportunity not even 2 years after winning The X Factor. She really was massive at her peak.

I actually think her vocal at the 2008 olympics is one of her strongest, it’s a shame the audio wasn’t that great but if you listen closely you can hear her pulling off some really impressive notes and she looked like a superstar too.

- link if anyone wants to watch.

It's the shame the audio sucks ass on the broadcast, because Leona's vocal sounded incredible on this. Jimmy has said that this performance is the one he's most proud of outside of the band, and was very complimentary of Leona:

“I’d be very sincere if I said that doing the Olympics [Beijing, 2008] with Leona Lewis was phenomenal,” he stated. “She’s really plucky, she’s superb, and she sang ‘Whole Lotta Love’ brilliantly. It was so cool the way she approached it. For that audience, and the fact we didn’t fuck it up… we’re really going to do this and we’re going to do it proud. That was important. It was a Led Zeppelin number but it took on another persona. I was proud to be able to play that riff for the handover.”

"Boy oh boy, she was really phenomenal," he said. "Her vocal was great."

It was great, but it was a pre-recorded vocal. The leaked version is identical.

They should've bunged this on the deluxe edition of Spirit
