NOTHING BUT MY FEELINGS

AVERAGE: 6.807
HIGHEST SCORE: 9
x3 (@boombazookajoe, @GimmeWork, @Music Is Death)
LOWEST SCORE: 2.5 x1 (@Purple)
MY SCORE: 8
2019 RATE: N/A

"Nothing But My Feelings" is the third song out from Confetti. Jade has a co-writing credit on this one, and it was co-produced by Oak, who has worked with the likes of J. Lo, Nicki, Rihanna, and most recently, Demi.

I'm mad about this placement! This is NOT bottom 3 of Confetti, no ma'am. It's a bop. The verses are immaculate and that second chorus is such a fun moment, the entire thing is such an earworm, at least to me. "Happiness" is obviously the best album track from Confetti but this is in second place for me, and perhaps controversially, I prefer it to one of the singles... but we'll get to that later.

"I Love You" is out next from Get Weird. The track was co-written by all four girls and it was produced by TMS, who have worked with Little Mix from DNA right up to Confetti.

This is one of Leigh-Anne's favourites, as she picked this (alongside "Nothing Feels Like You") to be on her picture disc version of Between Us.

I really like parts of this, and then there are other parts that don't work for me. I love the soft pop/R&B vibe it has, and I wish the song kept that same energy for its duration instead of ramping up into histrionics. Perrie sounds great, naturally, but the belting feels weirdly out of place for a song that has such dreamy production.

LOWEST SCORE: 4 x2 (@FabbyWabby, @RMK)
MY SCORE: 7.5
2019 RATE: 42/83

"Madhouse" is the closing track on DNA.

This takes a bit of a tumble from the previous rate where it made it to #42, but given the extra songs in this rate, I suppose it's not all that bad.

10 giver @YourLeadSinger only has praise for this, saying "Love love LOVE! While very of its time, it goes hard and catchy as fuck. For the longest time I thought this was a Deluxe Edition bonus track because the previous song sounded like a closer but glad this is (technically) the closer. Wig. Another highlight."

This is good. It's a solid bop. The extended middle-8 is a nice touch and it shares a lot of vibes with DNA's title track which isn't a bad thing of course.

CHANGE YOUR LIFE

AVERAGE: 6.984
HIGHEST SCORE: 10

LOWEST SCORE: 1 x1 (@Purple)
MY SCORE: 4
2019 RATE: 50/83

"Change Your Life" is the third single to leave our rate following "Word Up!" and "One I've Been Missing". It collects our highest total of 10s so far with 5.

It was released as the third single from DNA, and spent 9 weeks on the UK charts, peaking at #12. It was certified Silver and currently has sales of over 247,000.

Jade said that this is the first song the girls wrote together after they won the X-Factor. It was co-produced by Richard "Biff" Stannard, who would later work with the girls on Salute album track "These Four Walls", and who is most famously known for some of the biggest hits by the Spice Girls and Kylie.

...A bit of of a shame then that this song is what it is, oop. I'll let @YourLeadSinger go first: I hate this song. The spoken-rap bits by Leigh are painful to suffer through, and Jesy’s vibrato in both of her parts are irritating. The chorus, the Jade bits, Leigh’s middle-8, and Perrie’s adlibs are the only redeeming parts of the song for me."

I think the chorus is really nice, but who thought the spoken verses was a good idea? And better question, who thought this was good enough to be a single?! I'm guessing it has sentimental value for the girls which is why it was picked, but the album (despite maybe not being great as a body of work) had other songs that were viable single options over this one.

He/Him
Change My Life was a mild hit in Australia and it got used in a bunch of big advertising campaigns at the time so it felt inescapable, which was a nightmare for me. I loathe it. It’s a flop. I wish it nothing but the worst.

“Change Your Life” is an AWFUL song and I truly hate that it was ever a single. The thundering sound of disgust I made when it was voted into that Spotify Fan Edition of Between Us and “How Ya Doin’?” didn’t.

I can’t believe it lasted this long in our rate!

Change Your Life is out already?? How is this even possible? Before so many useless album tracks? Before terrible singles like Little Me?! What is going on?! It’s one of their absolute best

Nothing But My Feelings - 7.9 - A cute bop.
I Love You - 10 - One of my absolute fave Little Mix songs, I love it so much. It shouldn't be out yet.
Madhouse - 4.2 - Meh, it's alright.
Change Your Life - 9 - I appear to like this more than most on here. The spoken verses are a strange choice but I feel like it adds to what makes the song different. Also I feel like I've heard this used so much on TV shows so it feels bigger to me than it maybe was.

2019 RATE: 46/83

We return with a bang! After making it through unscathed for a whopping 38 eliminations, Salute finally loses its first track, the bonus track "Stand Down".

It's also our first song to hit a 7 average, therefore making Salute the only album to not have any songs rated below a 7!

This is categorically not the worst song on Salute in my opinion (although to be fair, I don't think there are any "worst" songs on the album, just songs that are less good than others nn) and I think it's tracklist placement affected its placement in this rate.

That shattering-glass sound effect? The two choruses? The scat-singing middle-8?! It's just relentless boppery at its finest.

@YourLeadSinger adds "BOP DOWN! Who told Little Mix they could do these many anthems on one album?! Phew! Love it. The breakdown is just *chef’s kiss*."

LITTLE ME

AVERAGE: 7.026

LOWEST SCORE: 2 x1 (@TéléDex)
MY SCORE: 7
2019 RATE: 39/83

It's back-to-back cuts for Salute as "Little Me" exits next. Not a great look when the second single from the album is the second song out from the album in this rate!

"Little Me" managed to peak at #14 on the UK charts, and was eventually certified Silver. In the grand scheme of things, it's one of their few singles that are pretty much forgotten I'd say.

This takes quite the tumble from the previous rate, where it managed to make it to the Top 40. Not only that, it placed in the top half of the album in that rate, whereas it's the second song out this time around! Oop.

@YourLeadSinger says "I always want to call this song boring but I actually like it when I am in the mood. I love the message and it’s so relatable but a waste as a single honestly" and I pretty much agree.

They sound gorgeous on this, the strings are beautiful, the mood of the song is uplifting and tender rather than cheesy and cloying. But all of that said... truly a waste of a single, especially for an album that had so many single options (with one of those spots being taken by "Word Up!").

Personally I'm in the camp that thinks the singles run from Salute should've been all bops, but regardless, probably any of the other midtempos and ballads would've made more sense. "Towers" was right there!

It has its moments - like I said, their harmonies are stunning on this, and I LOVE the moment in the final chorus where they sing along with the string melody. It's such a lovely touch. But yeah, I'm not really checking for this in any capacity if we're being honest.

While Salute has obviously been performing extremely well in the rate as it just lost its first two songs, LM5 has only lost two songs total as well, and "Notice" becomes the third (after "The National Manthem" and "Told You So").

I'm kind of surprised this made it this far because I feel like it's most people's least favourite song on the album, at least from what I remember from the thread, but I don't mind it.

In fact, I kinda like it - not a major favourite obviously, but it's nice to hear them sing something genuinely sexy and mature. It's worlds away from the horrific wink-wink-nudge messes on Get Weird and Glory Days and so for that, I appreciate this, even if it's not their most exciting song.
