"Confetti" was released as the fourth and final single from its parent album.

The song was originally released as a promo single two days before the album came out, and charted at #23 which made it their highest-peaking promo single. For its official single release, it was remixed to include Saweetie, as well as having Jesy's vocals removed. The single version was included as a bonus track on the Record Store Day vinyl editions of the album (but for reasons I still don't understand, it wasn't added to the digital edition).

There was a lot riding on this single. Most significantly was the fact that this was Little Mix's official debut as a trio. It was also released more than half a year after their previous single, "Sweet Melody", and I remember things seemed so up in the air after Jesy left that it didn't actually seem like we'd get a fourth single.

Thankfully, it did what it needed to do and became a hit. It peaked at #9, becoming the third Top 10 single from Confetti, and was certified Gold for sales of 400,000 units (although I feel like it should be close to Platinum at this point... maybe at some point next year).

We need to talk about the video as well. Before it had come out, The S*n reported that it would feature the girls dressed as men, and I think we all had reason for concern because it's not like their humorous videos have been all that great (case in point, "Black Magic").

Lo and behold, the video is fantastic. It features the girls dressed in drag as their alter egos Lenny, J-Dog, and Pez, and has choreography, multiple settings, and appearances by Drag Race stars Tayce, Bimini, and A'Whora. It also clocks in at 6 minutes, which is their longest video ever. Clearly RCA knew what was on the line and upped the budget!

The girls also released an absolutely sensational acoustic version of the track, which features a number of amazing moments including Perrie's high note after the middle-8 as well as the blink-and-you'll-miss-it "Say My Name" interpolation. It doesn't seem like the kind of song that would lend itself well to the acoustic treatment, but wow do they make it work.

This is such a banger. I liked the album version but I also wished it would hit just a little harder, and thankfully the single version beefs up a few elements to make it more full-bodied. Saweetie's verse is also insanely quotable and a perfect fit for the track.

I remember a few people were hoping for "Happiness" or "A Mess (Happy 4 U)" instead and I totally adore the former and wish it had gotten the single treatment, but "Confetti" seemed like an obvious single from the start and also lended itself most to the remix treatment. I think it's just a perfect single package.

"Salute" was released as the third and final single from its parent album.

It became the group's sixth Top 10 single when it peaked at #6, and has since been certified Platinum. And I know I've mentioned this a few times but it's worth repeating, "Salute" began a streak of twelve (!) consecutive Platinum singles.

The song was co-written by the group, alongside their longtime producers TMS. I'd say it's the most effective girl-power anthem across their discography, and sonically it's one of their most R&B/hip-hop leaning songs.

I adore this song. DNA was a mixed bag (confirmed by it being our first album out in its entirety) and so I remember putting this album on, just curious to see if things had changed or evolved. The second the siren came in, my ears perked up, and then the chorus erupted and I still remember it leaving me breathless. It was such an explosion of energy that I wasn't expecting. And the Destiny's Child vibes are immaculate and a big reason for why I love this song.

The video is suitably appropriate, but to be honest I think it looks a little cheap and I wish it was more lavish. I've also always found it so weird that for a song that is so explicitly about female empowerment, all of their backup dancers are male. And it's even worse in the final scene where they have women just standing in the background pumping their arms in the air while the men are dancing! Welp.

What we need to get more into is their performance on Britain's Got Talent. I think a lot of us share the same story - this performance is the moment where we sat up and thought "... oh shit". The choreography for one thing, but there's just this feeling in the performance where you could tell something had changed, and it would later be taken to the stratosphere with the BRITs performance of "Black Magic".

It's their first (at least to me) notable TV performance, and what's so incredible looking back is that while it's incredibly strong in its own right, it only served as a stepping stone for what would be some truly phenomenal performances they would end up delivering during their run.

Between Us has really overstayed its welcome. I appreciate it's sentiment but melodically it's a very average ballad for me.

I love Between Us but it probably wouldn't even make my Top 20. In fact, it's not even the best of the new tracks on the hits collection
