Lord of the Rings - TV Series

Yeh I have no idea why they conflated it and now seemingly many of the better storylines are going to have to halt while they explore the snooze numenor politics. Yay bad king boo good queen.

Some sort of second age anthology series with recurring elvish characters would’ve worked much better imho.

I'm convinced this show is written entirely by ChatGPT and no one can tell me otherwise.

The finale was probably the weakest episode of the season for me.

I’m interested to see where season 3 goes

For me - they can now retire nori and the stranger- they should spend an episode at the start setting up what numenor is - give us the lore and backstory if we have to sit through more over simplified tussles over the crown make it mean something.

I kind of hope we get a bit of a time jump next season. Like, I want them to skip forward to Sauron having built up his forces and the Nazgul being fully Nazgul-y and causing fear and havoc. Focus it on Sauron being sassy and powerful and then his faux surrender to move his focus to Numenor and then sink that fucker to the bottom of the sea so we can see Gondor being formed and some proper alliances and wars.

Numenor is THE worst storyline. Not a single likable or enjoyable character. It's all so limp. It feels like they were trying to do a Game of Thrones/House of the Dragon politics storyline but it doesn't work.
I’m a strong defender of this show but I agree here. The political stuff feels so un-Tolkien.
I do like Elendil though and don’t mind the Queen.

I'm glad it's not just me that thinks the entire Numenor plot and all the characters associated are horrible. The writing is painful and there seems to be a political coup every episode that then goes nowhere.

They would be insane to skip or do a time jump and miss the nine kings of men becoming the ringwraiths. Sauron and how the rings are infected with his blood is the strongest theme the show has going for it.
I'm absolutely fine with 'Gandalf', the other wizards and the half-foots story continuing.

Despite all the gripes I thought the finale was brilliant and overall much stronger than the first season. The balrog scene was stunning. As was the showdown between Sauron and Galadriel.

That shit took hundreds of years though. By all means, seeing him give the rings out is a necessary point to show, but after that there'd be next to nothing happening.

I kind of wish they didn't condense the storyline. I'm not quite sure how it would work when we have human based storylines but it's ruining the "epicness" of it all. I only recently learned that everything that basically happened in this season was over 500 years in the books.

It’s impossible to not condense the storyline. You can’t have humans like Islidur be around for 500 years while the rings of power are being made.

And you can’t have the plots take place at different periods of time it would get far too confusing

I would personally argue to not have the human storylines at all until they are required. They aren't adding anything now.

Well the fall of Numenor and the migration of many of them (With Elendil and Isildur) is required for the story. The forming of Gondor and the way they stand against Sauron is a key part of his initial downfall. We kind of need to know why they leave the island and stay in Middle Earth and also why Sauron would be so hell bent on destroying them.

But how are they going to show Sauron create Mordor or Elendil creating Gondor if not fast forwarding at points later on. Definitely they should’ve not introduced these humans so early on.
