Loreen - "Gravity" + General Discussion

Yeah, I mean, I don't love everything (because I'm shallow and live for a hooky bop) but up until she started throwing 2 minute jingles at us, the creativity in her work was kind of wild. I'd definitely not question the fact that she is a great artist.

Also, I can safely say that her performance on the tour last year was life-affirming, and a live music experience I'll probably never forget.

There's something quite admirable about her being absolutely determined that Eurovision will be the one and only even remotely commercial thing that she'll show any real interest in.

Played it once and refuse to play it again until a full length version is released, not an extended version, a full length version! A complete song! Give me a freakin’ break…

I think questioning her commitment to actually doing this is valid when her last album was seven years ago, and she's released roughly ten minutes of new music in the last three years. Singles that feel slight and unfinished coming nine months apart with no binding project on the horizon and seemingly no urgency or impetus to capitalise on the occasional swell of interest or momentum she does get just feels... self-defeatist after a while. You might as well not bother at this stage and go and howl at the moon in the woods of Scandinavia somewhere. And I say this as someone who has liked the bones of what she's been putting out, but... it's just bones. This is a skeleton.

I've never been convinced she loves doing this. She's always taken forever between projects. It almost feels like a side hobby even when the music is good. She's creative when she wants to be. She just doesn't want to be very often.

Yeah that's all definitely fair and true.

There's an element of clutching at straws here, as everyone can see the potential. She's mindblowingly talented, but she really does give "do I have to?" 90% of the time.

I think I'm resigned to the fact that she's just going to edge me forever, with teases of good songs, but then turn up at a festival and mumble through live autotune, over the same instrumental, looped for an hour.

We also have to understand artists also do what they're paid to do. If no label is footing the bill for a long player she won't do it herself. Artists know albums cost money. Artists know self released rarely pays off. See RAYE who did have a hit 'self released' era and is still milking it 10 years later.

I mean it's questioning her artistry that's laughable, I mean... come on...

Do I believe she goes home and listens to Spotify's Dance Pop Eurovision playlists? No... at worst she's just incredibly selective over music she puts out, if she puts anything else at all, but really all i see is this one missing one verse to what still slaps then, and aggravated fans who can't post their usual chart stats when they claim her as their fave.

The posts turning into how she doesn't love music are a bit dramatic ff she has won Eurovision twice, she quite literally doesnt need to release anything again - she could ho back to the woods if she wants.

Her fans see a worldwide megastar but she doesn't have that hustling spirit. She is good at making music and seems to enjoy it, but she's also not out here cutting deals and pushing her name out there. That's fine. It's not the life every artist needs to have. She seems content with dropping a song here and there and then dipping for a while.

probably because of labels or contracts with producers working under labels
It’s all been through this new label she’s with since Tattoo - she’s recorded Is It Love? within all these same sessions (there’s even an earlier and longer more pop version actually). What worries me is there’s newer demos of some of the new stuff that’s gone down more of the route of these ringtones she’s trying out and I’m not here for it.

At this point she must hate making music because what the fuck has she done after Tattoo.

Every single comment under the youtube video complaining about the song being short and unfinished should at some point resonate with her but it just doesn't? Performance art.

I'm glad we got Heal and bitter that Paperlight was shelved, but this is just sad to watch now.
