Oh Fallin is the first impression that really hurt! It’s so good and seeing that the producer also did Weeekly Day doesn’t surprise me as both are A+++.
@ysev’s anus has never been as prolapsed as it is right now.
I hate y'all ! B-side from their 2018 EP Heal, Watercolor is written and produced by Razer & Hongdi, who is part of Woollim in-house producer Rphabet. Razer & Hongdi has worked with Lovelyz before in R U Ready ? album in track Hide & Seek.
Watercolor is another R&B affair from Lovelyz that I adore so much and my comfort song along with my friend Hawari who also loves it. I think the big reason we love this so much is it's pretty similar to stuff that's released in Indonesian music scene. Taking off the rose-colored glasses, I still think the song as a whole is so whimsical and purifying. Like listening to this after a busy day is such a calming experience. A vibe, kids these days said.
ysev doesn't have time once again for R&B / cafe boppery : " This boring coffee shop fodder" I would love if every coffee shop replace their songs with Lovelyz ngl.
Now onto this aegyo fluff stuff that I actually don't like...
Coming from A New Trilogy EP, Fondant or 퐁당 (pongdang) is written and produced by in-house producer and MC The Max bassist J.Yoon, who also produce forum favorite for Lovelyz's Dream In A Dream. Sadly, he has passed away last year, may his sweet soul rest in peace.
Fondant never leave an impact on me, I try so hard to like it but it's so nothing-y. It feels like eating a cotton candy, bright and colorful but it tastes ass. It is just pure sugar without any additional flavor. Someone may like it, but it's not for me I guess.
Another complaint that I got with J.Yoon production in general is the mixing. With Dream In A Dream, it's salvaged by the synths and bleep-bloops. But Fondant sounds dull, where the string and bright synths are buried deep in the hell. Not one of you said anything about this, but looking at the scores I think everybody has the same opinion on it. Cute but not for daily basis.
Clue for next elimination : poetry reading and a song from Extra section
Also we already reach Top 60 ff, let me update the leaderboard
and can somebody tell me how to align center the quote ?
Lovelinus finally losing their first track and it's the gorgeous synth-kissed Circle. Produced by team OnePiece and lyrics written by Kim Eana who is notorious for writing for IU, Brown Eyed Girls and recently Billlie, I always felt Circle is a precursor to Temptation as the structure are similar, especially emphasis on rap / poetry reading as the song's climax.
Circle continue the trend of using 00s era R&B midtempo template in their discography and I know some of you (@ysev ) will hate it once again dd. However, this time paired with slight 80s touch and the usual bright synthwork that OnePiece do. Previously showcasing her rap in Bookmark, Babysoul once again do it here and it's pretty cute I guess. The different pronounciation of "circle" and several Engrish words are definite highlight too here.
Pretty shocked to see miss Crisp X giving this a 10, but she's not saying anything about it. Miss Ana Raquel however point out the similarities with a Marxist-Communist anthem : " To the left? I love Beyoncé - Irreplaceable <3" Down with proletariat ! Surprisingly, Ana Raquel, famous for being ballad-hater, rate it higher than the certified prolapsed anus ysev : "yawn"
Rise up weeaboo, rise up ! Tonight we also say goodbye to Promise, a soundtrack song, specifically the ending for a kiddie Korean anime Shinbi's Haunted House : Ghost Ball Double X that appears in TV channel Tooniverse. Apparently the anime was about some goblins or whatever.
There are no credits about who write and produce this track. Can somebody who knows to read Korean search for the information ? ddd. Anyways it is pretty standard anime opening / ending pop-rock. Enjoyable, but looking back now I regret my scores ff because how could a song about friendship with goblin can beat their other original songs ? Make it make sense.
I don't know if this anime popular or not, but surprisingly ONF (cc : @Wills ) and OHMYGIRL have also contributed soundtrack for this anime. I will link the ONF one which slaps a bit below.
Clue for next elimination : Extra getting double cuts and I love that ! Get rid of these heresies !
Here you go hunny! You're doing fantastic @Attis and I'm totally fine with everything that's left so far. I do like a lot of these songs but I'm not outraged at all by any cuts.

Today we say goodbye to the OST for a drama called Do Do Sol Sol La La Sol (girl..) called Loving You. Only sung by Mijoo, Jin and Babysoul, Loving You was produced and written by producing team ARTMATIC who has produced for Weeekly (Memories of Summer Rain, Uni) and countless OSTs.
Hoping for a great track from OST is terrible bet, because companies won't waste many money to it.Nevertheless, Loving You is pretty okay I guess. The melody, especially the dreamy hook & bridge and the chorus, has some potential but lacking better instrumental to back it up. Instead, we got some trap section that interrupts the general mood of the song.
However, it's the faceless quality that makes me dislike it. Any group could sing this and it wouldn't be out of place. Like we are here for rating Lovelyz whole discography, does this super average song deserve to be higher than some of their original stuff like Circle and Shooting Star ? I don't think.
See, none of you also said anything about this. That's how faceless this track is and I bet some of you couldn't remember the melody of this too dd.
And now, the elimination that I've been waiting for...
Fuck off Moonlight Mckeef ! Another extra take a bite and it's no other than Queendom standalone single, Moonlight. Produced and written by Fuxxy, Vincenzo, Any Masingga and Anna Timgren, a team that produce highlight of Chungha's career Stay Igor, Moonlight standouts as a glimpse how Lovelyz work with their usual forte / production sounds.
And it's not good ughhh. It's dated, boring and has the feel that it has been rejected and thrown away by Vincenzo / Any Masingga usual artists. It also sounds like some Eurovision low-ranking songs from Eastern Europe which I know y'all nuggets will stan but it's not for me.
In terms of melody, it sounds disjointed and unfinished with an annoying "be my own babe" hook. The only good thing from this song is when it ends the Babysoul part in chorus. That's it.
This is also a good opportunity for me to talk about Lovelyz appearance in Queendom, and dare I must say as a fan...they're bad falsdfjlf. Their Queendom experience is excrutiatingly bad and painful, witnessing an artist who has been pigeonholed by their company in specific sound, trying to show what they want to showcase but fail miserably. It's a case of an ambition to show that you can do modern stuffs while don't understand their own strength and weaknesses.
It's mindboggling and hurts to see them performing Ah-Choo in....tight clothes and BDSM-esque accesories ? Picking Sixth Sense to showcase their vocal ability when in reality Lovelyz vocal strength isn't in power but the emotiveness (also Sixth Sense is a BEAST of a song, it's probably one of the hardest song to perform. The minimal choreographies require attitude and charisma to be able to pull it off, something Lovelyz sadly lacks)
The course correction when they perform Cameo gives me hope they would turn it out, but sadly they release Moonlight ? Beside from the quality of the track itself, the lyrics also don't make any sense. While others try to prove their brave/strength/power, Moonlight talks about...breakup ? It just don't make any sense ! The final nail in the coffin is Moonlight lack of dramatic tone, something that is very much needed for a final performance. So yeah, it's disappointing, and hurt even more to see them having career backlash because of this.
But I don't blame the girls themselves. Woollim as agency also fail to oversee and craft a good narrative and concept for them. As a fan of their artists, I always felt Woollim as a company are a bit dated and out of touch in their approach. I truly hope they can get better and fresher talents in artistic department because mawma, the ship seems like it's gonna fall and sink now.
Now let's see some of the praises. Slice of Life said : "A moment!!!!!!!!!!" A moment of embarassment, yes. Crisp X also said : " Wtf I’ve never heard this before and this slaps!? It’s quite the departure from their usual sound yet it fits them like a glove." Hmmm I can't see it sawry.
ysev thankfully get some sense : " This is not them. It’s nice but ultimately so faceless." purr, true bestie and Wills said it best : "The way even Mamamoo's song obliterated this, it was really bad for them" ddd, despite my ambivalence toward them, Mamamoo's final song is the best out of the bunch methinks.
Enjoy the good performances of Lovelyz and Moonlight performance in Queendom !
Clue for next elimination : Aegyo queens and early IU-lite
Also let me know what do you think about their Queendom performances. Am I too harsh on my criticism ? Do they deserve the placement ? Has IVE dethroned G-Idle for Best Ethnic Hip ?
...you're right! I just re-listened, and either I was in an excellent mood when I scored it... or I accidentally copied the 9 from Promise (which I do love) into the next row. Sorry everyone!!!
Good riddance to Moonlight though, creative bankruptcy never sounded so feeble.
@Attis you did a wonderful job expressing yourself! Moonlight is so not them and I would say it's a shit stain in their discography but you'd have to actually have some sort of presence to stain the said discography, something that a Queendom off single, the equivalent of a promo CD of a flop girl group from the early 00's given as a Happy Meal freebie, won't be able to do. Happy weekend!
