It is none other than Lovelyz's standalone summer single, Wag-zak. This leaves us with Tiger Eyes as the remaining track in Extra section. Wag-zak is written and produced by Razer and Hongdi, with member Jin missing from the recording and performance due to her health condition at the time.

Wag-zak takes Lovelyz to exploring mainstream genre, tropical house for the first time. I have a love / mostly-hate relationship with tropical house, due to the abundance of it during a certain K-pop period. But my main complaint about that sub-genre is how lazy the producer and the writer could be on utilizing it, using copy-and-paste melody for the synths or not bothered to write a chorus and leave the already-tired instrumental to carry the song.

Wag-zak thankfully avoid the second sin by providing big sparkly chorus, with simple "some !" hook that's super efficient and catchy. Sure, the production is a bit tinny and the toot-toot sounds are committing the first sin, but hey with that good chorus, Wag-zak is already above 90% tropical house song. I also love how chill the whole song is. Tropical house usually try to make it loud as if it's destined to be played on some DJ set. Wag-zak's chill vibes are suitable for enjoyable, cute escapade for a cute, little, smol UwU person like me OwO (please don't kill me i'm joking)

ysev points out the similarity with another summer flop : " We can’t stop stop stop, yeogin party time!" ff Wag-zak is better tho and Jiae's aegyo is believable than Hyoyeon's pikachu mimicking. Wills praise it but also criticize it : "They really saddled one of their most enduring melodies with their #1 most generic soundscape, huh?" yas at we having the same opinion and agreement.

RUNAWAY is impressed : " Vocally impressive bop! This song was wasted as a digital single." hmm I can kinda see the potential if they're spending more budget for promotion. Slice of Life on the other hand can't make up her mind : " Kinda dislike this fffff but here have this 8!" So do you actually like it or not ? This is a case for FBI.





There will be a tie on the next elimination and surprisingly both of them aren't getting any 10.

It's frustrating just how pervasive trop bops were as a trend – the very best examples were cheapened by the million soundalikes that went straight to the local landfill after a play or two. There's an alternate timeline where, like, K-bro-country took off instead, and Wag-zak stood out as the refreshing anomaly it was always meant to be.

Like I said before, there will be a tie and the first one is Emotion, a song that is dedicated (hehe) for the complex human states created by Carly Rae Jepsen after the advent of her second bible. Joking aside, Emotion is written and produced by our old pals Sweetune.

I don't know how to describe the sonic soundscape of Emotion. Sure there is elements of 80s here and there mixed with little trap / R&B element, but I can't pinpoint what this song reminds me of or what musician they try to emulate. What I do know, Emotion is good. Not necessarily top tier on their discography, but I still enjoy it when it comes in shuffle. Things that I like from this track is the weird, singing bowl-lite, glassy (Oh God I'm bad at explaining things nn) synths that appear throughout the track, the appearance of Lil Babysoul and Jin's "naaaan" godly harmony in the bridge.

The only comment come from RUNAWAY who praise the chorus : " that chorus is everything!" One of their best for sure.

Bebe ! Lovelinus once again losing its track and For You standing alone as the survivor. Bebe is written and produced by frequent collaborator Heuktae along with additional help from Yoon Jong-seung.

Bebe is pretty faithful recreation of 2nd generation K-pop songs, like this is literally an Apink song ddddd. Bebe exist in the equilibrium of sounding busy yet also felt very warm. The rapid beat and the constant bubble-popping sound effect rush the song but accoustic guitar on the background helps to mellow it. Bebe IS a science, they need a license.

Other things that I also love and notice is this weird, almost Wilhelm Scream-sounding but distorted a bit sound effect after the second part of the chorus is kicking. I don't know if you could notice it or maybe my ears aren't working correctly, but I love that sound, it adds the dramatiqueness. Oh also Jin's high note is amazing albeit sounds a bit processed here.

RUNAWAY simply utters : " Yas!" while ysev found once again stanning : " Jiae’s spoken bits are always the best parts of every Lovelyz song. Kinda obliterates every k-rapper." Damn, this bitch is a stan !






Next elimination sucks and it's a gem from their early discography ! There will be another tie too after that and one of them is coming from Fall In Lovelyz.

The way this song is in Top 10 for a second before y'all tank it. We say goodbye to Goodbye Chapter 1 today, a b-side from their debut album Girls' Invasion. Goodbye Chapter 1 is written and produced by 1Piece.

Goodbye Chapter 1 is an excellent pop song and a perfect foil to their a-side / single Candy Jelly Love. While Candy Jelly Love takes a laid-back approach and providing serene feeling, Goodbye Chapter 1 is packed with high octane and bursting energy, the production is immaculate with the electro-funk influence permeating throughout the track. The chorus of Goodbye Chapter 1 also feels very early KARA to me, so I don't know why Sweetune enthusiast @Wills and KARA stan @RUNAWAY isn't enjoying this more.

One of Lovelyz's work with production team Full8loom, Secret Garden is departing today. Just like Goodbye Chapter 1, Secret Garden spent its time in Top 20 for a while before sunking just right outside Top 30.

Secret Garden is one of finest moment of combining Lovelyz's penchant of melancholic melody with enough maturity to edge it out. The whole song has 2nd Gen K-pop feels to it, but it also somehow reminds me of the work of underrated J-pop girl-group Tokyo Girls Style. Come to think of it, Lovelyz and Tokyo Girls Style do share same musical DNA methinks, the emphasis on melody and pairing it with interesting electronic production and a bit jazz to spice it up.

What I like the most is actually the piano here, how it's used very dynamically and constantly running (?), adding more drama especially in that sparsed bridge. The chills whew. The only comment come from ysev who praise it as : " Hands down one of their very best tracks".

The way codecat and ysev keep losing both here and in Ksoty rate today fff. Night and Day, an album track from R U Ready?, is written and produced by other member of team Rphabet, BEE who later also produce Just.

Pretty similar to Secret Garden, Night and Day provides a bit more depth and maturity to Lovelyz sound albeit now taking more jazzy soundscape. Tbh for a long time this song is 6.5 at best for me, until it finally clicks when I revisit their discography. It shares the same quality that I like from Secret Story. That cold, windy / wintery night when you walk alone passing by every city lights and strangers on the road. But if Secret Story is sulking on its own loneliness, with Night and Day you finally find a cafe where at least the warmth of coffee could help ease your pain.

Tracklisting isn't really a big problem for K-pop fans (because they mainly aren't listening to the music and buy it just for the photocard nn) but if only this song is put after Hide & Seek and before My Little Lover, now the R U Ready ? tracklist would be flawless. None of you said anything too about this track damn. It's quiet ain't no backtalk or whatever Nicki said.

Kicking off our Top 30 with a big surprise as Hi~ sadly must take the position of the first single to be eliminated from this rate. Hi~ was Lovelyz's single for their repackaged debut album and solely produced by 1Piece.

As their first comeback, Hi~ comes with a strong attention and expectation. At that time, Lovelyz were gaining little buzz for their fresher & unique take on cute concept. Many fans and netizens were curious how Lovelyz gonna develop their repertoire. Eventually, Hi~ came and the reception is thankfully good.

Some may see Hi~ as a transgression from their unique synthpop sound, seeing it as the standard string-based cute pop that Apink alike has released throughout their career. To me, Hi~ instead sounds like an emulation on IU's early songs and take it to the next lebel or whatever aespa said. Hi~ shares the same bittersweet and sentimentality of first love just like what IU did at that time, but 1Piece elevates it by giving it more packed instrumentals, bouncy and funky bass & their usual electronic flourishes.

Sure there are some parts of Hi~ that I think need to be addressed, like how the key is too high that makes the high note in the chorus a bit unbearable and how processed Jiae's vocal here ddddd. But as a whole, I can't help but adore the song so much. It's a well crafted song about first unrequited love, how it's all so lovey-dovey, full of anticipation yet at the same time the truth of love could be bitter and eventually run down your energy.

Speaking about Lovelyz single won't be completed without the MV itself. Long before Jaden Jeong and Digipedi working with Loona, they shape early Lovelyz imagery and it's interesting to see their evolution along with Lovelyz. The MV of Hi~ complement the song so much, I absolutely adore the subtle tidbits like trapped butterfly, firework and flown flower petals as an allegory to the gone love. Heck, even that simple crying emoji in the rainy windows are done very well without being cringy ffff. Bitch it actually makes me cry as it's also paired with the gorgeously sad bridge. The flowery abandoned house aesthetic is so beautiful, I want to live in that cute cottagecore-lite.

Sadly there are no positive commentaries for Hi~. RUNAWAY praise the string yet : " I love the strings in the song, but I don’t think it’s one of their best singles unfortunately." while Wills shades : "Great harmonies, beautiful harmonies" Ugh not this.

And just like that, Just is eliminated (nn). An album track from Fall In Lovelyz EP, Just is written and produced by half of Rphabet, BEE.

Compared to other songs in the EP, Just has the strongest christmassy feel despite not featuring the cliche christmas instrumentals a la sleigh bell in Twinkle. What's even surprising, Just find itself strong supporters in this rate despite usual fag hatred toward seasonal songs. Queen of subversion !

That christmassy (my God why is this word invented ? Now all I'm thinking of is christmussy) feeling probably attributed to the strong jazz backbone. However, Just manage to make it interesting by providing abundant synths and sound effects that keeping the song busy. As a result, this jazz-tronica hybrid feels refreshing in ears while also has this calming / seasonal winter feels to it. That bridge is also crazily good, and then seguing into final chorus with bare jazz piano ? Yas ! Also notice that some chiptune synth is pretty similar to the one used in previous track Triangle.

Slice of Life is shooketh : " Ok but the production???? This is not something they fucking made. This is some professional like… This shit is in different areas! What the fuck!!!!!!!" while RUNAWAY simply said : " iconic bop alert!" Period !





Later today I would eliminate 2 songs / a tie altogether. One is abundant in Los Angeles, while the other need a trip to hairstylist.​
