Lykke Li - so sad so sexy

Discussion in 'Pop & Justice' started by LE0Night, Oct 7, 2016.

  1. "[...] Li revealed that in addition to LIV, she has also been working on a new solo album. The follow-up to 2014’s excellent I Never Learn has been headed in a more “pop” direction, she said, explaining: “I feel like I’m always doing opposite things. LIV was very analogue and ’70s, and now I’m accidentally doing pop, in a very non-shameful way.

She went on: “I kind of started out pop by accident, and everyone was like, ‘Oh, you’re pop,’ and I was like, ‘No, I'm not! I'm indie!’ I got really offended. And then I had to make— [I Never Learn] is like the least pop album ever. Then now I'm getting back to it and feeling like, Cyndi Lauper wrote some fucking amazing songs. That’s nothing to be ashamed of.”

    Y*s, etc. etc.

  2. Lykke, Lykke, we all know you mean Spice Girls and not Cyndi.

  3. I'd hardly describe I Never Learn as 'the least pop album ever' even if it is fucking miserable (in the best way possible)
  4. Yeah I mean, Gunshot.

  6. I'm so glad Lykke's finally grown up & gotten over herself. #ThePowerofMotherhood (I joke, I joke...)

In all seriousness, I cannot wait to hear new (solo) music from her. She's insanely talented.

  9. I mean it must be rough being a woman in this (or any) industry and struggling to be taken seriously... but YAS at her embracing pop music.
  10. Here for both this and the LIV project.

I'm ready for a very pop, positive, light album from Lykke after the forlorn glory of I Never Learn. Give it to me quick, Queen!

  14. Yaaaaas.

I'm always here for more Lykke. Hopefully this comes sooner rather than later.
  15. I'm so ready for a new Lykke album.
  16. It seems like 2017 is shaping up to be just as amazing as this year. Ready for whatever this Queen delivers us.
  17. I Never Learn swopped out of nowhere and became my favorite album ever so I'm perched. Considering Gunshot and Never Gonna Love Again were the most 'pop' structurally and melodically, venturing in that direction can only be a good thing.
  18. Oh my, I've been listening to so much Cyndi today, it really is a way I want Lykke to go.
I am so ready for this, she really has transformed into one of my favourites, especially after catching her on tour, and falling in love with all three of her albums since, even though it was I Never Learn that first enraptured me.
  19. Her describing I Never Learn as "the least pop" album ever is odd. A while back she said something about how LIV has "real written lyrics" (?). Maybe her English just isn't very articulate.
  20. I revisited I Never Learn this week and it's pretty solid. Was probably a bit harsh on it at the time because it didn't approach the bar set by Wounded Rhymes, which is honestly one of my favourite albums of the last decade.
