Madonna - 15th Album

he/him
I might as well say it...I've never been a massive fan of Max Martin's stuff. It's rarely interesting and I wouldn't call him an innovator. Madonna's best work was often with producers who were slightly avant-garde and experimental, who she would then twist slightly and make their work more 'pop'. Working with someone as....conventional as Martin doesn't particularly excite me.

Calling Max “conventional” feels misguided when back during the height of the teen pop craze (aka when pop music was seen at its most “disposable”) we had Britney’s Stronger which had industrial soundscapes and N*Sync’s POP! which was probably the closest any non-Madonna act got to sounding like Mirwais. Sure that was over 20 years ago and his work is definitely more straightforward these days, but he has been capable of left-field stuff before.

This coming after I've just been re-listening to her 90s/00s discography and being blown away all over again? It feels correct!

I'm perched for her working with Max Martin, I absolutely have faith that they will make magic together and it will be iconic.

I'm not really a massive fan either (though I do respect his pop smarts), but her working with Max Martin in itself is unconventional for her as she's thus far avoided it. I'm very interested in what this could turn into to, though yes, it could fall short of expectations. After Madame X and all it gave in terms of innovation, I feel she deserves to put out a more conventional album. And she almost always does put her on twist on more conventional sounds.

This narrative needs to stop. With the exception of Mirwais, Madonna has never truly worked with avant-garde or experimental producers.

Lest we forget that some of her finest work was produced by Patrick Leonard, as “conventional” as they come.

So yes, send her straight to No 1, Max Martin/Warner Bros. payola!~
Orbit was kind of unconventional but your point is well taken.

Apparently Erotica while on the Blond Ambition tour, fans say you can hear a second of the intro of the old demo version of Thief of Hearts playing on cassette whiles she’s in her dressing room.
That snippet was dubbed in post. The original song she was playing can be heard on the workprint of the movie that have some extra scenes and undubbed parts.

TBH, the only producer she's ever worked with who I felt was completely wrong for her was Martin Solvieg. Max Martin doesn't necessarily seem that Madonna-ish on paper, but he's extremely versatile, so I think they'll pull out the right sounds. Also, Solvieg's own music is kind of bad whereas that's obviously not the case with Max.

I do disagree with @Drew in that I think Jesus Is A Rockstar is a legit bad song though.

I'm rather curious to hear what type of music she might be leaning towards this time around. I wouldn't mind something unapologetically POP from her. If she throws in House and dance influences in the mix thanks to Honey Dijon and Sickick this might make for a delicious concoction of what she does best and is most loved for. Madame X while artistically and creatively amazing work didn't particularly go for infectious and earworms. And I wouldn't mind her take on those at this point in her career!

As the king of Pop Production, finally working with the Queen of Pop, Max Martin also has something to prove and will undoubtedly do his utmost best to cement his status as THE go to guy for major hits with The QUEEN of the genre. I'm expecting something that will obliterate our souls, and until they serve it to us will start my 12 step program to try and lower my expectations, haha
