Jesus that live album sounds terrible! The audience cheering sounds artificial and way too loud, her live vocals on top of the studio/ pre-recorded vocal tracks make it sound very cheap.

You would've thought with the millions of edits from multiple shows on the DVD, they'd be able to cut the audio with all the best soundboard takes from every show. But this is a release by Madonna.

I'm bopping along and am not bothered about the vocal effects. If anything they're less annoying without the choppy editing going along with it.

I do lowkey love live albums that strictly edit the setlist down and almost make it more of a short journey. Or maybe I just salivate whenever I think about the Confessions Tour album. Left out some incredible tracks, sure, but it's all killer no filler and mixed beautifully.

Is it just me or is Like a Prayer missing from the Blu-Ray ? I can't seem to access it via the menu.

Edit: It is there - I obviously just don't know how to work Blu-Ray menus.

Also, interesting watching the show in Full HD. Some of the cameras used are amazing - v crisp gorgeous image but other shots look really unprofessional - like they were filmed on a Go Pro or something. The inconsistency is a tad annoying and I didn't notice it as much in the lower quality version of the Showtime broadcast I saw.

The Tears of a Clown excerpt is fun but why not just release the whole thing ? Make it a 2 disc set or have it as a digital download.

Apart from the tracklist I've no issues whatsoever with Confessions. It sounds wonderful!
Im still not over her inclusion of "confessions" and omission of "live to tell" what kind of fuckery was going on in the mind behind that decision.

Mistakes learnt? Hell no lets give then "intro" and cut "love dont live here anymore"

Whoever did the colour timing for this release needs to be fired. It's really inconsistent - completely different skin tones/hair colours etc. depending on the shot.

I do wish she'd stop being a cheap skate and just get Jonas to film all her tours.

New interview with Madonna to promote the DVD release

Found this bit interesting :

The DVD also includes the Tears of a Clown show you did in Melbourne. Was that a one-off or a trial run for a different type of Madonna concert?

I like doing intimate shows and being able to talk directly to the audience; to play with them and use humour and pathos and truth, and share my life - and also make up stories. I like the freedom of it and I like the intimacy of it, and I would like to explore doing it more in the future.

Maybe a residency?

Yeah, a residency. If I look back at the Rebel Heart tour, my favourite [part] was really the last section where I got to just sit on the stage and play my ukulele and sing La Vie en Rose and talk to the audience. [It was] just more intimate. More audience participation and connecting to human beings - I feel I'm craving that more and more.

I don't really get why she bothers with the live album portion. She'd be better off releasing the studio mixes.
Very true - I saw the show in Birmingham, and although obvious some tracks were mimed, the backing track seems so much more prominent throughout except on the more acoustic numbers. Now, I know Madonna has never been the best vocalist live and her shows and entertainment more than compensate, but maybe she needs to get back to that Evita vocal coach if she's serious about a more intimate setting for future shows........

he/him
Well, it's not that, it's just that the live albums never seem to be put together all that great. And I don't know anyone who genuinely listens to them regularly and enjoys it. I feel like most people do because it's the closest we have to the studio versions until they leak.

Am I the only one who gets annoyed that on La Isla Bonita her trousers changes depending on camera angle... Oh well.

I think most of the fans - certainly those of use who'll bother buying the tour DVD/Blu-ray/album - would prefer this. Has any artist actually ever released studio versions of the tour mixes? I know one of Kylie's musical directors has released a few over the years on his Soundcloud (and, of course, sometimes they leak), but I'm talking about a full length official release. They have to be made in the first place to be used in the show, so surely they'd only need a little mastering and some polish to be acceptable?
