Madonna - Rebel Heart (13th Album)

I don't mean she should cover them. I mean where are the songs good enough to be break out hit singles that people other than us would want to listen to. In other words 'Where are the Hung Ups, Like A Prayers, Into The Grooves, Ray of Lights etc'. Her lyrical instincts are cliched and one note now :(

It's cliche but it's true that she's too old to have a hit. If Madonna had recorded Taylor Swift's 1989 her singles would still have tanked.

Exactly. It wouldn't matter what she recorded now, it won't be a hit.

The album could still sell though, with sufficient promo and hopefully positive reviews.

It's funny how after MDNA and now Rebel Heart people are starting to appreciate the vocals and production and cohesion of Hard Candy.

Madonna sings in a high-pitched baby voice during much of Rebel Heart. It's actually kind of shrill at times. Although I like it, it's a weird thing to explain.

Has it been confirmed that these are not the final mastered versions of these songs? I really think these are exactly what we're getting.

According to an insider who gave us 100% accurate information about the songs themselves, the leak is unmastered (and also watermarked).

I love the Snapchat idea, but she'l basically lose a lot of streaming points, right? Most of her fans will download Snapchat and watch it, but I doubt we'll be returning when it premieres on YouTube. It'll be a LQ premiere, though.

There's nothing even remotely "baffling" about it. I've been a fan for over 25 years. Her voice on many songs nowadays is not at all like her voice up to 2005.If you can't hear that, then it says more about you than it does about me.

I have little interest in her sounding "fine". I want her to sound like Madonna. I'm a fan of good vocals and many of these aren't good vocals.

Madonna's vocals went to sh-t after 1999. Since "Music" her vocals are a thin Minnie Mouse. Her early 90s voice was superb. It's funny, most women, their voices get deeper as they age. With Madonna, it's the exact opposite.

I have a feeling she is intentionally avoiding "she sounds old now" criticism.

I don't think thats true. Anyone can hum along to those 1989 songs and can relate to them. This new album is so melancholic and clunkily written, it's not enjoyable to listen to. She's chasing young producers but writing dull lifeless lyrics for songs that no young person who isn't a fan can relate to. Can you imagine them playing Addicted in a club? Its just not of a standard. The production of Living for love is good but the song is atrocious. She's become the U2 of pop. Fans buy it but no one else cares because her ego stops her working with people who made her great in the first place like Leonard and Bray.

I would rather Madonna do what she wanted musically than attempt to emulate Taylor Swift or anyone else who happens to be "younger" for the sake of #HITZ. She's done that enough with the last two albums anyway.

I'm not the youngest of fans, but I have never given a shit about new Madonna until this album, and I'm 18.

It's always funny to see people (on a pop music forum of all places) essentially insist that the music and music alone is what dictates hit status. I mean, look at the Hot 100 rate.
