Madonna - Rebel Heart (13th Album)

This is the type of "performance video" she usually gives for the final single off an album. I can't believe they opened with something so boring. I know she's cheap, but THIS CHEAP?

You're wrong! ... It's more of a 2.5.
Seriously, I don't get why everyone loves it so much. Y'all should watch "Take a Bow" once again. Or even "Give Me All Your Luvin'". Classy shots and editing can't conceal a close-to-zero budget.

Why does everyone feel the need to compare what she's doing now to things she did over a decade ago? I will never understand. And while GMAYL is a great video, it had very little to do with the music or even the artist herself. This puts it all front and center in a way it hasn't been for years.

It's a win/win for both parties, M gets to the younger Snapchatters, Snapchat gets to expand on older users.

People only use snapchat to watch someone wank for them. It's not a Youtube. You have to go through an entire manual to find the video. I don't know what her team was thinking.

What does budget have to do with anything? Some of the greatest videos of all-time didn't have a big budget. Some dreadful videos had massive budgets and were still feeble.

Sorry, I phrased that badly, what I meant was... Madonna used to be such an exciting visual artist. The master of those big spectacular videos that were proper events, and inherently cost a lost. This was supposed to be a Comeback with a capital C, not "pretty girl playing matador". Tour backdrop material at best. In this day and age, where having a truly eye-catching video can give you a hit, she went for this... No replay value whatsoever.

Snapchat most likely have something like twenty four hour exclusivity before it goes through to the usual channels.

People need to chill the fuck out over so many aspects to this album.

It sounds like there's a lot of swiping involved in Snapchat. Is this their way to discourage people from using it while doing naughty things at the same time?

Like you can't pat your head and rub your belly.

They do. People are acting as if this is the only place they'll be able to see the video for an eternity. These high expectations are so interesting considering what she gave us during the last two campaigns.

I love the video just for the fact that it tells a story in a methaphoric way in stead of typical on-the-nose kind of way.
When she slays that last Minotaur at the end I was cheering her on.

This era might not spawn hits but it's exactly what she should be doing. I don't care about charts anyway, so I'm just happy she is committing to the album as a whole. Tour or no tour. Hit or no hit. This album will be remembered as part of her legacy. Even if it's her last one.

Snapchat doesn't count as streams though right?

Is the video on Snapchat available for more than 10 secs or have they changed the duration now?

Simple and effective. Really nice video, I love her throwing around all the minotaurs.

I hope I can actually watch it on my computer soon...

Nope. The video premiered as part of Snapchat's new Discover service, which... nevermind I'll paste from the Billboard article again, haha:

To state the obvious, it's a major coup for the three-year-old Snapchat, which boasts an estimated 200 million users. CEO Evan Spiegel made headlines during last year's Sony hack when a series of uncovered e-mails revealed that he was at work on an in-app music feature, including negotiations with Vevo to bring music video viewing inside Snapchat's interface. Those talks reported stalled, but the music feature being discussed was likely tied to Discover, which was announced last month.

Discover feeds news and entertainment from 12 different companies directly to the user. Participating organizations include Warner Music Group, National Geographic, People magazine, ESPN and Vice, who enlist editors to select stories (which can include photo essays and videos) that are shared and refreshed every 24 hours.

Wasn't the video for "Human Nature" more or less all one set-up? "Fever", too. I love those videos. Not everything needs to be cinematic like "Take a Bow." Madge looks great and moves beautifully in the video. It lifts the song up, up, up in an artful and intelligent way.
