Ha! Just as I was about to ask when our first 11 is leaving... it will be interesting to see which song it is.
I was actually thinking the same thing earlier. This must be the longest a rate has gone without a single 11 being eliminated.
Madonna performing at Eurovision participating in state sponsored propaganda is a career low point on so many levels! Whew. Future is a cute girl though and I love the audacity of the main hook. The dancehall production really contributes to the eclecticism of the Madame X experience.
149 SCORE: 6.824 2015 PLACEMENT: DOWN 38 - 111 of 210 of (7.047) 11 x 1 (@DinahLee) HIGHEST SCORE: 10 x 12 (@Andreas @Phonetics Boy @godspeed @torontodj @joeee @Bleu Noir @JonBcn @Crisp X @Mister_G @phoenix123 @Pop Life @Remorque) LOWEST SCORE: 1 x 1 (@theelusivechanteuse) MY SCORE: 6/10 Despite this being the second go around I've had eliminating this song, I completely forgot it was even a single. Even the cover art doesn't look that familiar to me. With its departure, Who's That Girl is left with two tracks to its name, and it should be no surprise that it's the two singles that people actually remember. No, but I'm maybe being a little unfair. I was actually surprised that I only gave this a 6/10 when it clocked up because it actually deserves a 7/10 at least. Another Patrick Leonard collaboration results in this weirdly steamy, atmospheric ballad that, in contrast to the rest of Who's That Girl, doesn't just act as a greatest hits to Madonna's 80s sound. There's probably more DNA in common with future tracks than anything else found on the soundtrack. The track only had one tour outing, and it was during... Wait... What? OMG OUR FIRST 11/10! COMMENTARY! Yes, I'm afraid "The Look Of Love" falling means that we have our first 11/10 loss. It took nearly eighty songs, but we got there. I'll hand over to @DinahLee for the full story, "When I think of soundtrack songs I end up thinking of "throwaway songs" or smash hits. The Look Of Love is kind of a limbo. It wasn't a Huuuuge hit but it's also not the type of song that just "doesn't fit any record so we'll give it away". You can see there's a nice thought within the song, it was created with a purpose, and not just filling the tracklist. "Nowhere to run / Nowhere to hide / From the look of love / From the eyes of pride" I mean why did you have to read me like that? are probably some of the most beautiful articulations of how aggressive and melancholy and disorienting and scary and devastating. And yet beautiful, love can be. It feels a bit different from what you'd expect from a typical 80s ballad somehow. And she also does have the best 80s ballad on earth with Crazy For You, so this one feels like a... way more introspective, mysterious cousin that stays in her lane, but a nice one for a long conversation about life." aaaaaahhhh reading this kind of makes me miss commentary. This is good tea. Although I don't miss organising it. The track got one tour outing over the years, and that was part of the Who's That Girl Tour that was... really in support of True Blue instead of Who's That Girl but Madonna had *double checks Wiki* "an American screwball comedy" to promote. Shudder. The performance is good though, and most likely a welcome break in one of the most relentless setlists of her career.
"The Look of Love" leaving before numerous other songs, especially the ones from "MDNA" and "Rebel Heart", is quite tragic and certifies the lack of taste and balladophobia. Excellent 11 choice, @DinahLee! It's one of my favourite songs from the extras section and one of the many discoveries. It literally deserved to be #49 instead of #149.
This is getting a bottom of the page elimination IDGAF!!! 148 SCORE: 6.873 2015 PLACEMENT: DOWN 48 - 100 of 210 (7.24) HIGHEST SCORE: 10 x 5 (@DJHazey @Drew @joeee @Crisp X @sexercise) LOWEST SCORE: 1 x 1 (@OSHi) MY SCORE: 7/10 When I was collating the scores I honestly thought this might have gotten this far with no 10/10s, because... I don't really remember any discussion about it. Along with being a Diplo number, it's also one of the songs that MNEK worked on during Rebel Heart along with "Living For Love". You can actually kind of hear him on the backing vocals so I'm surprised he didn't attempt to push for a feature like he did with Christina Aguilera on her last album, but I guess he knew dOn'T fUcK wItH tHe QuEeEeEn and just cut his cheque. I like it! It was basically Madonna doing her own take of a tropi-bop (which was incredibly on trend at the time) and doing it really well. I still find it fresh to this day; the production is just so damn smooth. I am surprised it lasted this long though. Not even just in general, but in relation to other Rebel Heart tracks. There is honestly... a dearth of interesting info about this track. The only real thing is that it seems that it was rehearsed for the Rebel Heart Tour at some point, but left on the editing room floor when it came to the actual show. It appears it was rehearsed along with "Joan Of Arc", "Rescue Me", a cover of "Behind The Bars", and an official performance of "Ghosttown" which, despite being a single, was only ever performed intermittently during the show's acoustic section. That's... it.

Also, because y'all can call me a drunk but never say I'm not thorough, this is the teaser video for the Rebel Heart Tour where you can see what looks like a bit of the performance for "Hold Tight" with the dancers thrashing the drums; something we never saw in the final show. Who else remembers #bitchimasock? Only real fans remember #bitchimasock tbh.
Oh no! This was one of my favourite discoveries of the rate. The track’s so atmospheric and the tension is palpable throughout the song. It also felt really unique coming from Madonna when compared with what she had released so far at that point. This deserved so much better.
