Yes, that's right. It got so close to making it out of the back one hundred unscathed, but I'm afraid American Life finally loses its first track, leaving Erotica as the only album still fully intact. I think "I'm So Stupid" owes a lot of low scores to that piercing, dissonant 404 ERROR sound that basically has everyone wrenching their headphones off their head in agony. But even when you get past the deliberate Mirwais knob twirling (tee hee), it's easily the weakest track on the album. Although it's also the genesis point to what would be several Fuzzy Dreams, which might play against it. Ugh, I don't know. It's just... not that pleasant to listen to. Madonna's delivery makes it sound like a Phoebe Buffay lost classic, and in terms of the "Wake up sheeple!" songs in her back catalogue, she's got far better. Hell, some of them were even on her most recent album. Like, I get that it's an Angry song, but it ends up sounding more petulant than furious. I have a lot of time for the album as a whole, but this is mostly a misfire to me. The song's live history is typically spotty; it was originally rehearsed for the Re-Invention Tour along with every other single Madonna has ever released, because that tour is as close to a Greatest Hits setlist as she's ever come. You get a brief clip of her performing it on a soundstage during I'm Going To Tell You A Secret, but that's it. However, over a decade later, she blew the dust off it and most of its parent album at the one-off show Tears Of A Clown while she was on the Australian leg of the Rebel Heart Tour, before brushing off the entire set for a charity performance later that same year. Performing this song dressed as an actual legitimate clown might be one of the surreal things I've ever witnessed in my entire life. QUEEN.

I'm So Stupid is one of the few songs on American GOD that didn't get a ten from me, and even though I agree with the assessment that it's the weakest song on the record, I still love how deliberately challenging it is? It's a freakish hybrid of bratty punk ethos and electroclash, and it shouldn't work nearly as well for me as it does. It's a common "I'm angry and I hate everything" jam here at Chez French

I'm So Stupid - 5.5. My least favourite song on the album. Parts of it sound like a dentist's drill to my brain and it's just all a bit too samey.
Same. I did know that "I'm So Stupid" is unpopular, but it doesn't really deserve this harsh treatment. In my opinion, "American Life" should've been the last album to stay intact, but oh well. Also, there are multiple songs from "Erotica" that are weaker than "I'm So Stupid", too, and I would've liked to see them leave a while ago.

"Where Life Begins", "Fever", "Secret Garden", "Bye Bye Baby", "In This Life" and... ...I'm not ready to name the final one. All five songs received at least a 6.5 from me, so it's not that I dislike any of them. I feel like "Fever" is running out of time and will be eliminated very soon.
I mean all of those songs are excellent but Secret Garden in particular is one of the most important songs in Madonna's entire discography so I'm going to need you to take a seat.

I mean. Why? This is... so wrong sis. - Happy that Erotica is untouched. Didn't expect that, for real. God Bless the "Did You Do It" ban. I think the first song to leave will be either Why It's So Hard or In This Life. The first used to be a major favorite when I got into Madonna but got bored of it (The Girlie performance tho? whew). In This Life is beatiful and for sure it is important, the execution is part of the concept, but it does feel like it goes on for too long. That last minute or so is actually fantastic.

Why's It So Hard is underrated, I find. Even by myself! It's not until I'm listening to it in context of Erotica as a whole that it fully hits me.
I just worry that once the first Erotica song comes out, it will actually bleed out dd. But if that's around top50, I'm fine then.
