My memory is it was going to be called Iconography.

I don’t remember this, but there are promo materials for GHV2 that still have The Second Coming written on it.

GHV2 has great songs but the tracklisting irks me - Don't Cry For Me Argentina should be near the end, and all the Ray Of Light singles should be together for example. Poor Nothing Really Matters too.

I love the look of GHV2 and the songs are all ace but after The Immaculate Collection, it was a bit of a let-down. No new songs. Even the Thunderpuss megamix wasn't included. It just came across as lazy from Madonna, which is not something I associate with her.

It came out at an unfortunate time. Madonna was a bit grumpy after being pushed by Warner to do things she didn’t really want to do and to get her revenge she became stingy with her past catalog (see DWT and the exclusion of recent hit American Pie from GHV2)

GHV2 may be completely redundant today but back then it was my second Madonna album in 2003 and introduced me to her 90s glory at a time where streaming was unthinkable. I think it would be a better collection if it included Rain and American Pie and picked better edits of Human Nature, What It Feels Like For A Girl and maybe Don't Cry For Me Argentina, but I still think it was a pretty immaculate collection.

I still remember getting back from school and listening to the opening bars of Deeper and Deeper. What a moment. I feel it’s such a great opener to her 90s GH album because it connects to Immaculate Collection by sampling Vogue.
