Madonna

I have been street teaming for Madonna to up her certifications and while I gladly accept The Immaculate Collection's re-up, she has a few albums ready to go!

Confessions is eligible for 2xP

Hard Candy is eligible for Platinum.

Like A Virgin is ready for 11x Platinum

True Blue 8xP

Like A Prayer 5xP

Rebel Heart is so close to squeaking to gold and Ray Of Light is so close to 5xP. And I'm not even getting into her singles yet!

Is this UK or US? UK albums are certified automatically now when they cross sales thresholds.

The new Dolby Atmos mix for IC has re-reminded me about how on streaming Borderline and Lucky Star are the wrong versions compared to the actual Q-sound remixes/edits created for for the album. (Lucky Star is the "New/US remix" and Borderline is the original album version). Does anyone know why it was released digitally like that, was it a mistake that stuck or an intentional decision? Just feels sloppy considering the whole album was originally conceived as fresh mixes of all the old songs, to have two older (much longer) versions on there.

(I've edited it on Apple Music so I've still got rips of the old ones there because nerd but it's still annoying)

It is extremely frustrating, particularly in the case of Lucky Star since I really love the IC mix and the version they included on digital platforms is simply not as good and kind of boring. Also, they just don't sound as clean and bright as the rest of the Q sound mixes. I HATE IT. It reeks of George Lucas revisionism.

I listened to this at the gym today, some of the songs really come to life like Material Girl, Papa Don’t Preach, Like a Prayer and Rescue Me, but some are questionable, like, why does Borderline have a hissing sound throughout it? I’ve never noticed a hiss on any format of this song before.

On the topic of The Immaculate Collection, a record store I visited on the weekend had an original pressing on vinyl, I almost didn’t buy it as I have the repress, but then I quickly came to my senses and snatched it.

I think sometimes these artifacts come from the original masters and subsequent audio engineers have removed it, but one later can't hear it (for whatever reason) or never noticed it. There's one or two songs from 20-odd year ago I love that have a high-pitched noise all through them, right at the absolute limit of my teenage hearing, which I can only assume that a 30 or 40 year old studio tech simply can't percieve anymore. One song even removed the noise in a remaster about a decade ago, and then on a subsequent remaster, it's back in.

Not saying which songs they are cause if you never heard it before I'm not ruining them for anyone. I wish I could unhear the noise.

Watched Confessions Tour last night cause honestly it’s like oxygen to me - if I don’t watch it every 18 months or so I’ll shrivel up and die - and the tour performance of Erotica is truly one of the best things she’s ever done, right?

It’s so good it’s moving. Like, I get a lump in my throat. So sophisticated and sexy. The way the coldness of the original is dissolved into this kind of pulsating longing. It’s so melancholic, almost vulnerable. The way she moves! Anyone who says she can’t act needs to watch the story she’s telling with this performance - it’s enchanting, gripping choreography.

Ugh. Pop’s greatest architect. She has no peers.

The way only last year I realized the whole Erotica performance from Confessions is only using the Chorus of the song and nothing else in between but echoes and it goes so hard.

One thing I find super underrated from that Tour is the Like a Virgin arrangement. I always get goosebumps when the build up finally leads to THAT last chorus. The synth bass, the strings, the drama. God bless the moment they leaked the studio versions as well.

You Thrill me on the Confessions Tour elevates Erotica from lust to sensuality and longing for me… and it’s one of her finest performances and really lets her background as a modern dance dancer shine through …
Obsessed. That tour was her blond ambition of the 00s. I was 14 and bought a ticket for £20 from a reseller outside Wembley and it was there I fell in love with Madonna, making and writing music.
