Mariah Carey - General Discussion

About the squealing.... on the high notes, her pre recorded voice came on (because she can't hit them anymore) and instead of miming over them she whistled instead...rather badly too. Maybe she was unaware she was doing it. I'm talking about the "LORD KNOWSSSS" part and the "JUST HOLD ONNNNNI_CANNOT_USE_REAL_WORDS_PROPERLY" The actual full voice we heard was a pre-record coming in. Tut tut Mariah.
Erm no. The "whistling" (screeching) was unintentional and has happened before. Look at her 'Fly like a bird' from 'Shelter from the storm' on youtube and you'll see it happens there as well.

I disagree that she's always been dull. The one thing I loved about her over the last few years was her crazy personality.

Even earlier this year on Friday Night Project she was a lot of fun and she DID move her neck then.

Don't know what happened last night, but it definitely looked like she was on some kind of drugs.

I was disappointed. I'm not a big fan but I thought she'd deliver. I remember that she was great on Friday Night Project and hoped that might come across. But it didn't. She just looked so nervous and worried. Strange for someone of her stature. Also how fucking SHITE was everyone bar Alexandra? Why didn't they sing something vaguely upbeat. Maybe Touch My Body was a bit too much to ask for but christ..

I'd even venture to say that Alexandra got a bit too much praise that was unwarranted, and I speak as a supporter of Alexandra who thinks she should win the whole thing. She hit one or two off-key notes, but didn't get any criticism. Mind, that was nothing compared to the howlers Rachel managed to hit, and they even underlined those in the recap montages!

Alexandra should have done Honey. Has Mariah had a better uptempo moment? Can't think of one.

I found the best performance of the whole night to be Ruth's Knocking On Heaven's Door - one of the two non-Mariah tracks. Matter of fact, I'd say Ruth's two sing-off performances (this one and Purple Rain) have been the best of the whole series, which makes me wonder (a) why she doesn't deliver anything during the performances within which she's supposed to deliver, and (b) why nobody is waking up and noticing that Rock Chick Ruth should be exploited far more.

Boo, this whole post is just SO on the money for me. I like Miss Alex but she ain't hittin' the Miss Leona heights for me yet. I'm likin' my boys JLS more and more. And Miss Ruth. This is the story with theme weeks y'all. They force you to doin' a theme you hate, you bomb bad and go home - but if they were allowed to just pick whatever the hell song they wanted, Miss Ruth probably be rockin' out and be one of the favourites. I'm still kinda jaded with Miss Rachel. Girl was nailin' it in the heats but she ain't hittin' the heights either.

As for Miss Mariah, she's losin' that voice and fast. And she seemed on a whole other planet again y'all. She was like a freakin' robot. Everythin' so damn forced and stiff. Simon Cowell needs to get his head outta her ass too.

It seemed to me like she couldnt be bothered to hit the notes, she was keeping to her low register throughout most of the performance. maybe she was pissed becasue she couldnt get to performs her new single etc etc.

I don't even know if she was mouthing the words. That microphone seemed permanently attached to her face. Maybe she was eating a sandwich during her "performance".

or a bucket of KFC!

I quite liked the song though, it was nothing spectacular but it was pretty enough. Unfortunately thats how I feel about all Mariah's output these days though 'it's nice enough but its not much else' which is a shame.

I thought there was something shoved down her top. It can't have ALL been tittage, surely?

And have you heard her latest album, smokey? 'I stay in love' is nice but it's a little by-numbers or we belong together part 4 as I like to call it, but the album is surprisingly eclectic by her standards. 'Side effects' is the one to listen out for.

The one thing I was hoping for from a performance of ISIL was well..... A PERFORMANCE!

It is such a dull song that it needs at least movement, At least we are sane. I went onto 2 other forums and some people were saying "This is like, Her BEST performance in years...." and "Oh girl, She still got the voice".......

My jaw is still on the floor, Do people, No I mean CAN people actually think this is good? Yes I know she is still an icon but dear god that was the worst performance in the whole X-Factor even worse than Daniel and Disco Week...

I can't say I actually own the album but I listened to some of the tracks at a friends house not long after it came out and it was Okay...a lot of it passed me by. I liked 'Migrate' and 'Side Effects' and 'That Chick' but I don't really remember the rest at all. I did buy 'Touch My Body' though, but 'Bye Bye' was just a joke.

You know how you announced your love for me the other day, smokey? It is so mutual. That picture is amazing. I think I want it for my avatar!

I think the bottom 2 this week should have been Mariah and Diana.

It's really weird how the year in Mariah has turned out. Touch My Body was a huge success here in the States, and there seemed to be an excitement about Mariah being back in business. E=MC2 received more positive reviews than not, and 2008 was another year for Mariah to dominate, and suddenly everything went downhill. Bye Bye singlehandedly destroyed 95% of the momentum E=MC2 had, and Mariah did little to help it despite a few high profile performances, she didn't seem to have the interest that she did when promoting We Belong Together for instance. I feel like a horrible person to put any blame on her marriage, especially considering people have been married and performed full promotional duties and such before, Christina did it during Back to Basics (that's just the first example that came to mind).

I'll Be Lovin' You Long Time, I thought, was going to be the song to get things back on track. It sounded like one of those universal Mariah songs, but she hardly promoted it, and radio obviously disagreed with me (not for the first time, but rather surprising I must say). Finally, she released a proper ballad from the record, but in the end, it just fall short, doesn't it?

I suppose I could have just said, "Back to the drawing board then, eh?" and not posted all of this, but to be honest, the failure of Mariah Carey in 2008 is one of pop's greater mysteries at the moment if you ask me.

I've always been a huge fan of hers and have spent quite some time defending her over the years but I have to admit that I Stay In Love performance was fucking shocking.

I am pretty much DONE WITH THIS BITCH.
