Mariah Carey

He/Him
I'm onto The Elusive Chanteuse today and woo Beautiful has aged like fine wine, Thirsty is much darker sounding than I remember it and I love it, oh and You're Mine is heavenly! It really is an album worth revisiting.
We were driving in the car today and I put on You're Mine and when she goes off I was screeching along with her, to which he almost stopped the car and said"If you're going to do that then you might as well be on your way by foot.", but, you know... in Flemish.

I was a smidge away from agreeing, but then remembered it was about two and a half miles more and I never would have made it on time.

It’s also the 30th anniversary of Daydream this year and that’s a huge album, the 90s albums (Columbia) have been getting the anniversary treatment so I can see her going with that, maybe the rock album will finally see the light of day since it was made during the Daydream sessions.
Daydream 30, needs to happen and be on Music Box 30 levels please at the very least Mariah.

Me I Am Mariah getting so much flack at the time for the weirdest reasons that had nothing to do with the music was distressing as a fan. It’s so good! As much as the fanbase tends to favour Memoirs… the mixing on that has always been so crunchy to me. MIAMTEL (!) is the more enjoyable listening experience.

I honestly had a double take with Elusive yesterday, like I can’t believe back in 2014 I thought the album wasn’t very good and never feeling the need to return to it, but wow it’s great, I forgot how great Meterorite and You Don’t Know What To Do, I’ve never been a fan of kids on songs but Supernatural is pretty gorgeous and has some very interesting production. I’m glad I’ve seen the light on this album, it’s definitely one of her more fun albums and ill be returning to it a lot more.

Memoirs is a great record but way, way too dated. Elusive Chanteuse does have its moments of feeling a little old, but it works because of throwback songs like Dedicated. It’s a summer record and this is probably my favourite song from the whole thing because it captures the season's feeling so well:

Elusive Chanteuse has some absolutely brilliant tunes, but it does have Supernatural (probably my least favorite Mariah album cut) and Camouflage which drag it down. The latter is strange because I typically enjoy that kind of Mimi Moment (Portrait, The Wind, I Wish You Well) but I always forget it exists when I revisit.

You Don't Know What to Do, Make It Look Good, Money, and Dedicated are brilliant and stack up nicely to two of my all time favorite Mariah tracks; #Beautiful and The Art of Letting Go.

I've been having a moment with When You Believe today.

This song was soooo taken for granted when it came out... by me and everyone else at that time.

Me, I thought it was a bit meh for what I would've expected from a Mariah/Whitney duet.
Everyone else, I think the UK at least was suffering from diva-fatigue.

I think my sentiments towards the song changed after Whitney passed. It's taken on a whole new meaning since then.
I love it now and almost makes me feel a little emotional.

When You Believe was my first single as a fully fledged Mariah fan, so I loved it.
#1s had just come out and it was my first album I owned by her, I played that song on repeat A LOT, and the music video was on the music channels regularly so I watched it a lot.
Every December I usually get all nostalgic for that period of my life in 1998, so I’ll find myself listening to it a lot again.

When You Believe is lovely. As you said, it's maybe a little underwhelming as the song when Whitney and Mariah finally came together and I would put it in the lower ranks of both of their ballads but at the same time, the camp and cheese of a big 90s diva-off is too delicious to resist. The harmonies, the ad libs honey it's too good.

In 1995, I got my first ever CD player for Christmas and with it 3 CDs:
Janet/Design of a Decade, Ace of Base/The Bridge... and Mariah/Daydream.

I loved Fantasy which is why I asked for Daydream as a present. I still remember listening to Always Be My Baby for the first time on my bed and playing it over and over, but I wasn't an official lamb yet.

I wasn't obsessed with Mariah until Butterfly came out. I became so unbearable at school with how much I talked about Mariah at that time. Christmas 1997, I got the rest of her albums and I've been a lamb ever since.
