The Greek version of Girls is far far superior to the album version.
I like this version because it has the lyrics:
"I love your botox bitch"
"Calm down, I'm not going to steal your boyfriend
No need to brand him in between the eyes
Calm down, I'm not gonna to steal your boyfriend
So quit burning holes in me with your eyes"
Yes, mama. Understand with me.
David Kosten tweeted a pic of Marina's gift to him, which was a bunch of TFJ demos, and she wrote "Girls (Greek Version)" on there, which is seen as the 'official' name for the Fast Car Version of Girls. Love the Calm Down one too, especially the bridge!
I love Girls in all its incarnations, it's wonderful.
I'm still so bummed that the second half of the first verse of Hollywood is forgotten by most people. It's clearly the more interesting than the first half.
Air hostesses doing gossip magazine
Crosswords on a flight to JFK
Thirty nine years old
With a mile high sheen
Trying to stimulate a mind
That is slowly starting to decay
I itch my skin, I jump up and say,
"Lady, I know why your thoughts turn gray."
Every single word in Hollywood is never forgotten by me.
Is that the shitty part of the song that's not in the single version and that doesn't even flow well?
Maybe... But I like the part.
Re-listened to FROOT for the first time in a while and it's such a refreshingly honest album. Lyrically for me it's head and shoulders above Electra Heart where some of the songs are little kitschy. I know Weeds is seen as the weak link but "I miss all of my exes, they're the only ones that know me but God knows that sex is a way to feel a bit, a little bit less lonely" is brilliant.
Burn the last page.
I much prefer the album version of Hollywood. The single version is much too chorus-heavy because of the ace bit they edited out.
Weeds is divine.
I cannot stand Weeds. I think I would rather listen to Rootless, Girls, even Buy The Stars!
What's with all the Buy the Stars hate? It's a highlight of Electra Heart!
Every song in Electra Heart is a highlight.
Hermit the Frog is quite possibly in my top 5 Marina.A great jab at hypocrisy of patriarchy.
This part is gold.God The Family Jewels has amazing lyrics from start to finish.
I love all of Marina's albums, there is no debate here!
Hermit the Frog is so underrated. It's in my top 5 as well. The theatrics of it are heavenly.
(My first PopJustice post after reading the forums for over a year. Newb alert)
