I'm eager to see how his career will shape up. Surely getting him to write his own stuff is a very big risk. I hope Syco have the sense to say "sorry, this isn't good enough" instead of just adding it for the sake of it because he has written it. If he was capable of coming up with good material he could have become a popstar without the X Factor.

To be fair, Olly Murs claimed to have no writing experience prior to X-Factor and he went on to co-write the majority of his album and look how well he's done, it's not that much of a risk.

I agree with you to an extent though, I don't think he'll write a song fully on his own for this album, Syco will probably pair him with top songwriters and let them write together, like Olly did. Then he should have the experience to write good commercial songs on his own later in his career.

He's performing at the NTA's giving a 'special' performance. Premièring his new single maybe? 'When We Collide' has fallen to 34 on i-tunes, so I think it would be really smart for them to do so.

Besides, his stuff before Xfctr was pretty generic rock shit. He was never going to be a "serious, respected auteur" with that.

Definitely a good move for him though, considering how shiteous Syco are.

yeah as Citoig pointed out, they never won.

It seems like Syco are almost downsizing, and just focusing more on the TV side.
It could mean the winners potentially stand a chance of coming out with a decent album.

He said all along that he wanted to write his own material, which instantly puts everyone at Syco out of their comfort zone haha

That's great. Looks like he's really trying his best to not go the norm male X Factor winner route. He is a lot more talented than Joe or Leon though.

I love the fact that he can actually play an instrument as well, I don't think many / any finalists have ever been able to and apply it in the show.

I think it's good for him that he's been able to negotiate a better deal. Hopefully he can bring his shit to the table.
