The album is struggling to maintain a decent chart position (No 32 after 6 weeks), when you compare it with the likes of Ed Sheeran No 8 after 11 weeks. I can`t honestly see Starlight getting higher than lower regions of top 20 and will probably only shift the album up a few places. I used to really like his voice but now for some reason I find myself wincing when he reaches the (forced) top notes and I find the album grossly over-produced and too shouty.
Ed Sheeran's album went down for a while then climbed back up because he had hit singles and a tour to promote it and he also didn't sell as much as Matt in his first week. If Starlight does well then it can have the same effect.

Ed`s album outsold Matt first week.... 102k and Matt sold around 75k I believe, also his album has not dropped out of the top ten since it was released 11 weeks ago. Lego House was already charting 3 weeks before it`s release as it is an album track. The fact that Starlight is not showing in the iTunes chart 1 week before official release doesn`t really bode well. As a comparison Example (who also releases his new single Midnight Run next Monday) is already charting at around 35.

Is this still being released as a single next week as I haven't seen any preorders for it anywhere. Or are you just supposed to download it from the album?
It's no surprise that One Direction and Cher Lloyd are doing better with their 2nd singles as they are being playlisted on the radio, TV appearances and hype created over a release date. Even an established pop act would need to do some sort of promo for a single, so I don't see why he wouldn't. It's like the record company have wanted him to fail before he even released anything. First they pushed an awful Gary Barlow song onto him and now they're ignoring one of his own decent songs.

I can't see this doing anything, another awful song from an awful album. Two weeks until release and it's nowhere to be found on the airplay chart. It's probably going to be his last single before he gets dropped. Syco already gave up on him and are focusing 100% on One Direction. Seems like Columbia doesn't care much either.
Don't fret exposed, it's at #51 on the airplay chart which isn't too bad. If it makes you feel any better, he's 16 places above Rebecca Ferguson.

#51 the week of release? is this supposed to be some accomplishment? wow what a smash. It must really suck being a Matt Cardle fan these days if the best piece of news you can find is that he is #51 on some unofficial airplay chart, haha.

Speaking of Rebecca, she has one thing Matt Cardle craves so much but will never have, critical acclaim.

Starlight has been available to download (from the album) ever since the video was released and it started getting radio airtime (happens with most singles from albums..........if it is popular it will chart before it`s official release date ie Ed Sheeran`s Lego House and Example Midnight Run. Starlight has not even charted yet........does not bode well.

This is catchy and semi-decent and would have been a much better lead single that could have led to a successful career. But they went with the Barlow thing and then cancelled his second X Factor slot, so this will never become a hit and I will be surprised if he isn't silently dropped around June.

He was never going to get a second X Factor slot............that was just a daft rumour!!! I think he may get a second album but if it is as badly and over produced as Letters it will surely fail. Maybe the hugely successful Ed can give him a few tips on "less is more" and he will make an accoustic album next time and stop the shrieking!!

If it`s 51 on the airplay chart, then why hasn`t it appeared in the iTunes chart............it`s been available for people to download from the album for weeks!! Maybe they just aren`t impressed?

It's harder for non R&B acts to score multiple chart hits these days though isn't it? The new James Morrison and Will Young singles aren't in the top 40 either. His album is holding up better than expected so they might give him another single yet.

I hope they let him go away and do one more album - he just needs one really great song, which unfortunately the album doesn't have.

Harder but not impossible as Ed Sheeran has proved............Lego House is such a simple little song yet has been holding steady in the top ten for a few weeks now and of course A Team has been in the top 40 for 6 months!!

Maybe it is time to swallow his pride and pack up his credibility and beg Simon Cowell for an X-factor slot this weekend. This single will not even go Top 100 on itunes otherwise.

I found the single on itunes and amazon. Bizarrely it doesn't have the actual song itself but a remix package. Strange as he's not exactly obvious dancefloor material and not sure that's what people want from him either. Stranger still is that it's not totally shit.
I think he looks beautiful on the single sleeve though:

Only the big guns get to appear on the X Factor final..........Coldplay announced so far (although didn`t they say recently that they would NEVER appear). Suspect Buble will also be wheeled out.

The big guns are you sure I am sure Westlife and Boyzone will be dragged out. If JLS and One Direction will be on Matt should get a slot.
