McFly - Power to Play

He/Him/His
7th studio album, 8th if you count Space Band (which I'm sure no one is), due out June 9th. This photo is being used on the Genius page as an album cover but no idea if it is actually the cover or not. After Young Dumb Thrills, it wouldn't surprise me if it was.

I didn’t enjoy Young Dumb Thrills. It was their first dud album for me. After the quality of the material on The Lost Songs I was hyped. So hopefully this sounds completely different to Young Dumb Thrills.

Where Did All the Guitars Go? Is the first single… not that hyped. Like most people didn’t like YDT, Lost Songs should have been released as an album and that’s the sound I prefer from them.

Re-listened to Young Dumb Thrills today, and it's not as bad as I remember it.

After going so long without any new music I suppose it just didn't meet the high expectations that come with an anticipated comeback, especially following the release of The Lost Songs where many of the tracks were known about already and had been highly sought after since 2013-ish.

Where Did All The Guitars Go? does sound a lot better from the (admittedly very short) clips they've been sharing though, so hopefully it doesn't disappoint!

They all share credits now even if they didn’t work on the song. Which I get, as Harry never writes but misses out on the royalties.

I haven't listened to a McFly album since Radio:Active (which I loved along with Motion in the Ocean), am I missing much?

Anyway I'll be checking this out!

Above The Noise has some bops. That’s The Truth and Take Me There are top tier.

The Lost Songs are fantastic for a collection of demos and would’ve been a really interesting direction for them to keep exploring.

Admittedly I haven't listened to it in a long time, so opinion may change, but I really liked "Shine A Light" from Above The Noise as well. It didn't particularly feel like a McFly song at the time, but it was interesting to see them aiming for a more electronic/synth sound while trying to maintain their usual one. I thought it worked well and having Taio Cruz featured came as a surprise too.
