Megan Thee Stallion - MEGAN: Act II

Watching ‘In Her Words’ now. I was going to wait until tonight but I’ve been really looking forward to it so I figured I’d just jump in. I’m not very far yet but I’m already quite emotional. Her story just breaks my heart and I’ve never been in her shoes but I really feel her pain. She’s so gracious and generous in the face of so much tragedy and I don’t know how she does it. I feel lucky to have followed her since before she blew up and to watch her much earned success grow. It’s so brave of her to be so vulnerable and open considering how much vitriol has been sent her way. To withstand all of that and still be willing to share your struggles is pure courage and it’s so important. Money, fame, etc. will never fill the void left by grief and depression will cloud even the brightest of times. Not to be too parasocial, but I’m so proud of how firm she’s stood in her truth and just how much she’s accomplished over the last couple of years as an independent artist. Nothing can stop her and I’m so thankful she’s here.

Editing to add - I’ll have more to say later but the scene when she finds out they got that little leprechaun bitch on the highest charges had me weeping. I cried right along with her. I remember the day that happened and hoping she was feeling so much catharsis and justice and it was special to get to actually see that. It couldn’t have been more deserved. You are so incredibly loved, Megan.

Looking forward to the documentary. I am bummed though, my copy of the Act II CD came (hideous cover and all) and the mastering / volume is so quiet. I wonder if it was a CD-R made on demand affair. I have to turn it up like a solid 10-levels played back to back with other albums.

Roc Steady is an absolute hit, one of her best. Like A Freak is also a banger, the definition of play it twice with the length, but every time is a rush, even back-to-back. I’m also keeping Bigger In Texas, Bourbon, Number One Rule & Fell In Love. The rest is fine (apart from Best Friend which is challenging) but really more of the same from her. I think Megan the album would have perhaps been a home run had she filtered out some of the Act I songs and replaced them with the best from Act II, but really that’s a small complaint when she’s keeping us fed with new music to the extent that she is.
