Sorry if i sound insensitive, but that is bordering on ridiculous (assuming that you were supposed to go into work today of course).
Of course it's a massive tragedy for all his family and fans, but i would never even consider taking a day off of work to mourn the death of someone who i wasn't close to. I'd probably get sacked!

I find it just so sad. You can't help but think how far he was pushed into doing those 50 concert dates and how much this contributed to his untimely death.

Yeah, but that would mean all the rabid fans who bought those tickets up in minutes contributed to his death! If 25 of the dates had sold poorly and were cancelled, he'd have perhaps survived? The whole thing is just plain bizarre. You can see it streaching on for miles... reports he's really alive, "I saw Jacko in Britisth Home Stores!", murder theories, crazy-ass wills leaving millions tozoo animals, etc. etc. etc. He's not done filling column inches just yet... poor sod.

I'm glad I don't have a job like that.
It was more to do with being exhausted, actually. I was up all night after hearing this.
And I didn't fancy being around certain people.

Agree. It's kind of scary that some of his fans are going into meltdown... I'm not sure any popstar death would warrent such hysterics in my own life. And I'm REALLY into my music...

Re: Michael Jackson dies aged 50

Absolutely ridiculous. It's very, very sad, but what difference has Michael Jackson's being alive made to your every day life up until now? His music is still around for us all to remember and enjoy. You mentioned priorities last night, but I think you may need to take a look at your own...

Re: Michael Jackson dies aged 50

Kind of needlessly off topic (I think?), but I don't think MJ was found not guilty of the molestation charges, but rather settled out of court. Honestly, I believe they're probably true to some degree. I hardly think he's a bad person or did anything with bad intentions, just has a really warped mind and doesn't see society in the same way we do, and for that matter the law does. Not to excuse anything, but he did have a pretty messed up life, alot of which was due to circumstances outside of his control.

Re: Michael Jackson dies aged 50

I bet there are people who HAVE taken today off work, in fact I know of one person who probably will who I used to work with, but she came into work the day after her gran died!

I can understand that some people may be upset, but sadly the things that happened in Michael's personal life is always going to overshadow his music for many people.

I'm actually just listening to comments in my office about what people are saying as I type this and most of them are rather jokey etc - I actually think that this is what most people will be thinking.

I must stress this is NOT my opinion of what I feel, it's just my perception of other's views...

I think the board rules ask you not to discuss legal things (is this applicable?)... but he was found not guilty of the case which went to court. There were other accusations made prior to that hearing which were settled out of court, yes. It's not even worth pondering. We'll never know the truth. But the documentaries are surely already in production now he;s dead. Butlers and house maids will crawl out of the woodwork... "Now I can finally speak the truth", etc.

Feeble excuse... I had a bad upbringing that's what made me do it.

It's a funny thing - can you still like an artist and their best work while despising some of the things that did in private or the things they stood for?

Re: Michael Jackson dies aged 50

Both Sarah Silverman and Alan Carr have had complete U turns on twitter and are now upset hes dead. Twats.

Can they please have Alan Carr on a float so we can throw stuff at him at Pride?

Re: Michael Jackson dies aged 50

It's heartless maybe but I wont miss him day to day... it's not like he released new material every other year! If anything, we'll get more Jacko releases now as they pick over the bones of the archives and vaults and cash in. The fans will lap it up.

"Not to excuse anything" precedes the part you put in bold precisely because that WOULD be a feeble excuse and certainly not hold water in a court of law. I just think the circumstances of his upbringing and celebrity should garner some empathy for his state of mind.

ANYWAY. Will You Be There is a really moving song at this time, though the fact that the song seems to change key approximately 74 times still slightly annoys me.

Re: Michael Jackson dies aged 50

I think he'd still be with us had he not had the stress of the concerts to deal with.
Alan Carr has stunned me, I must say.

The cheek of it. It was a two and a half hour back up shift, and I overslept as it happens.
I knew I'd get nothing done anyway.
Not that it's any of your business but they were fine with it - it's not like I'm a brain surgeon or something.
Bloody hell - this forum sometimes!

People behave in different ways.

I still listen to my Phil Spector produced records and think he was rather good.

I don't think a bad upbringing is a feeble excuse. Childhood has a massive effect on our psychology throughout the rest of our lives. Why do you think the stereotypical first question from the psychologist is "Tell me about your childhood"?

I love this quote from his Wikipedia biography page:
