Re: Michael Jackson dies aged 50

If I'm being completely honest with myself, I have to say that even though I find the news shocking and saddening, I had sort of passed on his career starting with the Bad album. Although I loved Thriller, by the time Bad came out, my musical tastes were leaning more toward the SAW sound and away from him (though I Just Can't Stop Loving You is great). Guess I always preferred Disco Michael to Pop Michael.

That said, I'm currently at my work desk listening to the Jacksons' "Victory" cd. I must be the only person on the planet to have loved that album. When I bought the 45 to "State Of Shock" in 1984 I think I played it non-stop for a week. One of my top 3 Michael tracks. A forgotten classic.

Sorry to sound all Lone Gunmen-y but it does seem a bit odd the way it's been handled, with the body being in plain sight and all...

Not that I believe it, but I can kind of understand people who think otherwise.

Sheryl Crow was on Anderson Cooper saying that when she first heard the news, she thought he had finally planned his own "escape."

Will anyone be at Liverpool St this evening? Apparently there's a mass moonwalk. I quite fancy going, but not alone!

There's a "You are not alone" gag in there i'm sure...

Ha. That does sound great. They should do Thriller though. It would be like that scene in 13 going on 30.

Re: Michael Jackson dies aged 50

This is a shock, and death is always sad, but I'm pretty sure I'm not going to cry over it nor is it going to change my life in any way.

But nonetheless, RIP MJ.

To me it sounds like people are using someone's death as an excuse to have some fun, which strikes me as slightly tasteless. The percentage of people there who will be doing it out of respect for the recently deceased would be pretty low I'd imagine. Even if I didn't find it slightly disrespectful, 99% of the people who go probably can't moonwalk for shit.

Sorry if I come across as a dick by saying that, perhaps I'm being a bit over-sensitive.

Re: Michael Jackson dies aged 50

You do seem a bit over-sensitive, but you are right.
I think it's too soon. It sounds fun but it should be a properly organised thing in the near future, now I think of it.

There'd better not be. I have a date tonight and don't want my journey home to be delayed.

Sorry if this appears heartless, but pay your own tribute by listening to the music. That's what I've done.

Re: Michael Jackson dies aged 50

This would have been quite a sad day if it happened 15 years ago but I can't get my head around all the things that have happened since.

Now I'll remember him as someone who recoreded some amazing songs, went mad and ruined himself :-(

Re: Michael Jackson dies aged 50

I've just remembered this post I made in my birthday thread about a week ago, after Bonkylicious sang me an 'Earth Song'-style happy birthday:

One day I'll make enough money to get Michael to sing me that exact version of "Happy Birthday"

I never did quite make it. :(

Re: Michael Jackson dies aged 50

Usher's statement was extremely well done. This event has even made Justin less douchey as he aptly called Michael a "genius".

Re: Michael Jackson dies aged 50

This isn't directly related to the death of MJ, but does he have any remix albums and are they any good? I'm trying to delve into some stuff of his I haven't heard before.

Re: Michael Jackson dies aged 50

I never want to hear Justin Timberlake mentioned in the same sentence as Michael Jackson ever again. It's like comparing cow poo to chocolate.

Re: Michael Jackson dies aged 50

Quite weird seeing everyone gathered around the newly stacked Jackson shelf right at the front of HMV Oxford Street a couple of hours ago. I was expecting it, but still. Oh, and 'You Are Not Alone' coming through the speakers really loudly.

They'll probably sell out by the end of the day!

My goodness, I was not making any sort of comparison, only noting that Justin rightfully noted that Michael was a genius!

Blood On The Dance Floor is a remix album of HIStory, with 5 extra songs thrown on for good measure.

I went out last night, and they played loads of MJ. It was wonderful, everyone was cheering and dancing like crazy.

Blood On The Dance Floor is his only remix album - 5 new songs and 8 remixes of songs from HIStory. It's good if you liked the HIStory singles and enjoy very hard-hitting house-y type mixes. The new tracks on it are very good too, with the exception of 'Superfly Sister'.

I highly recommend it, but I highly recommend everything Michael-related.

News broke here in Australia at the start of the day - I went into a few major retailers at about 4pm and they were completely cleared out of everything Jackson related. Big gaps in the shelf where his stuff should be.

Femmenizer - don't worry, that wasn't directed at you. It was something I'd read earlier.

My friend told me about that, he was saying they were cashing in but the way I see it, people are going to be looking for his music so it might as well be in a prominent place.
