Miley Cyrus - Plastic Hearts

Excluding the Body Talk trilogy (Pt.1 and Pt.2 were basically mini albums and not EPs), has the split EP strategy ever worked for a pop girl? All those I can remember are Jessie J, Bea Miller and Bebe. The first one to avoid an awful chart position for an album, the second one because she was indie and the third one to... exist.

I like the EP overall. Mother's Daughter is my highlight, but I think most agree there. Ghostface Killah sounds really out of place on DREAM and I don't like the way his verse stops abruptly at the end leading into RuPaul's intro to Cattitude - very jarring unless that was Spotify glitching. The less said about Cattitude the better - it's the only real dud here. The Most reminds me a little bit of Malibu.

So...She Is A Cute Girl. Most of these songs are good - the lyrics even feel slightly less clunky for her, which is nice. Ghostface Killah’s rap nearly derails D.R.E.A.M. though (and he sounds like Lin-Manuel Miranda for some reason?)

Cattitude is really the only out-and-out low point but that’s mostly because both Miley and Ru sound...bored, and the production doesn’t go nearly as hard as it should. If you’re going to have lyrics as stupid as that, you better make good and god damn sure everything else is as balls-to-the-wall ridiculous or maybe even moreso to match (or at least distract from) them. As it is, it just sounds like Liz Phair’s Bollywood on tranqs remixed into a subpar Drag Race semifinal group song.
