Had to Google and the first thing that came up was a waterslide so I kind of love it.

I snorted!

allSTARS* - 'Is There Something I Should Know'

Average score: 6.605

High scorers: @DJHazey (8.5), @Ana Raquel (8.5), @Untouchable Ace (8.2)

Low scorers: @Markus1981 (2), @AcerBenII (3), @unnameable (4)

Notable achievements:
The B-side to what is arguably their signature tune, 'Things That Go Bump in the Night', which reached #12 in the UK charts.

One of the more amazing trends of the late 90s and early 00s was the 'revamping' of 80s tracks with added 'donk' for the alcopop generation (in fact iconic trashy cover versions could be a rate in itself...). 'Is There Something I Should Know' was originally released by Duran Duran in March 1983, becoming the group's first #1 single. If only this success could have carried over to 2001! The lyrics are actually pretty poignant for a manufactured band in allSTARS*' position, with allusions to broken dreams and being under scrutiny. The reaction from the voting panel was reasonably muted, this being the first song since Club Together 'Living the Dream' at #99 to have a maximum score of less than 9. The song got both a glorious 8 minute 'Almighty Mix' and a 'Mothership Mix' which is a new one on me - I will be checking out their remix of Chicane's Saltwater for sure!

I was about to comment that coming with something more serious might be a mistake and then that chorus occured.

@Hudweiser 7.5
Joanne Joanne are a bit before my time so I didn't know the original. I remember this cover being slated at the time by 'the press' though (like this group would ever curry favour from them?) but I like this a lot

@Doodvid 7
Lumped with the superior ‘Things That Go Bump In The Night’ as a double A side means this got widely overlooked. The number of double A sides/covers that started popping up for the group indicated maybe there really was “something” poor old allSTARS* should know… (the record company is panicking & the p45 is in the post maybe? *sad face*)

@Ezz 7
There's just something that doesn't gel with me here, but the beat saves it

@berserkboi 6
A bit of a weaker melody than the rest so far!

@unnameable 4
pooing over Duran Duran, I did not need to hear this.

I love that they had to change the original lyric from "you're about as easy as a nuclear war" to "you're about as easy as you were before". Nice enough but not as essential as their cover of The Land of Make Believe which hopefully we won't be seeing for a long time!

Was "Is There Something I Should Know" just a B side or a double A side? The title is on the front cover and there are mixes, but on the other hand there's no video and I don't recall hearing it being played back in the day.

No performances on YouTube either - this random vinyl lists it first though which I'd never seen before!

Stargate - 'Easier Said Than Done'

Average score:
6.623
High scorers: @Remorque (10) @AcerBenII (10) @beserkboi (9) @saviodxl (9)
Low scorers: @idratherjack (2) @Lost In Japan. (3) @Hudweiser (4)

Notable achievements:
Reached #55 in the UK singles chart in 2002

The back catalogue of Stargate, the hugely successful Norweigan songwriting and production team, reads like a who's who of pop and R'n’B royalty for over 20 years and includes the likes of Beyoncé, Rihanna, Katy Perry, Mariah and many many others. In fact their characteristic sound was ubiquitous in the world of disposable pop at the turn of the century with everyone from Atomic Kitten to Blue to Mis-Teeq benefiting from their golden touch. Another of their songs - Hear'say's 'The Way To Your Love' - appears in this rate and even S Club 7's earliest outings were Stargate Studios spectaculars. In 2001 the team put their name front and centre by launching a vocal duo (although confusingly their debut 'Wilder' had a featured artist thus briefly making them a trio) made up of rapper Flex and Anne Judith Wiik from the group Soda. Despite displaying the typical Stargate flair and the promise of big things, our #74 elimination stalled outside the UK Top 50 and that was that. Success with this track really was easier said than...d (sorry - cheap!)

Blue All Rise as a Mixed Band Bop!

@Ezz 7.5
Love the moody architecture in the video

@unnameable 7
Like a slightly lower-rent Liberty X

@DJHazey 6
Lol, is this the UK/European version of Ja Rule and insert guest vocalist? Funny enough that his hook is quite possibly the most exciting part here

@Doodvid 6
I recall an article in Attitude magazine (possibly) that claimed this project was going to be massive for the producers. Also, it appeared on the compilation ‘‘Funky Divas - The Autumn Collection’ that a colleague got me for my birthday at the time. It sat amongst some CLASSICS on those CDs...

@iheartpoptarts 4
A below average Blue song with somebody trying to be Ja Rule on it. I would 10 the heck out of the Tyler one though.

@Hudweiser 4
Is this in fact 'Fly By I'?

No live performances found for this and the remixes are...not great, so here's their debut instead:

And let's enjoy some of band member Anne Judith's cute pure-pop output with Soda:

Possible candidates for the dreaded higly-anticipated rate sequel?
