Is there a song that can't be elevated by their signature beat / synth / whatever magic it is?
I’m not sure it worked that well on Steps' ‘Words Are Not Enough’ but sometimes the source material just can’t be salvaged…

Next up, one of three songs remaining that didn't receive any 10s or 11s, you cold-hearted lot!

Shall we turn up the temperature?

"From the corner to the centre of the club
Holler at me now can we make it pop"

(not pop enough for most voters...)

Imagine this going off in a club *sigh* remember clubs?
'Make It Hot' was the end of the line for British pop/R'n'B group VS who were cruelly hit by the double sting of a flop single and flop album in the space of 2 weeks - their debut LP 'All Kinds Of Trouble' failed to break higher than #142 leading to plans for a winter release of Chicago's 'If You Leave Me Now' being quietly dropped despite a promo video in rotation on music channels. Who knows why VS ultimately failed? (a massivley un-Google friendly name might be part of it, yes? *bashes head against keyboard in despair*) I mean, OK perhaps the world wasn't exactly calling out for a mixed version of the boy-band Blue or a stream-lined, watered-down take on Blazin' Squad, but as 'Make It Hot' proves they definitely bought the flavour of a 'sassy Liberty X album track' to the dancefloor and, sometimes, isn't that all we need?

The urban style works best for them when at that level!

More songs need that 4,3,2,1 robotic countdown intro.

@iheartpoptarts 6
Not the first video I would’ve expected to take place in a cornfield!

@DJHazey 4.3
These male vocals are not my style. Also it sounds very of its time.

VS' 'If You Leave Me Now', the canned 4th single release, which could've turned things around for them maybe?

We know that group-member Marvin went on to find huge success in JLS with their debut 'Beat Again' in 2009, but in the grand tradition of Frankee vs Eamon ex-VS bandmate Jaime released this (cheap) response track 'Cheat Again' *eyes emoji*:

I must admit this song leaving so soon feels like a massive injustice for possibly the most obscure of our rate entries - the ultimate underdog! Indeed, it's the only track we included that never had any official release. Can't even remember how I acquired the mp3 now - probably via begging to a Youtube uploader many many years ago I'm fairly certain it DIDN'T involve sharing nudes but anyway...I do however recall stumbling across the video of Six performing at an award ceremony, at that point the only evidence this version of the song ever existed, and being absolutely blown away. Six's 'After The Goldrush' is a lush dance-pop cover (this time Neil Young) from the hands of well known producer Chicane who had previously worked with Bryan Adams, Clannad, Cher, and perhaps most importantly of all the one and only HRH Queen Lisa of Scott-Lee. *gasp*
Probably recorded for what would've been Six's sophomore album, the group weren't around to release it as they split not too long into 2003. As comedian Dara Ó Briain rather cruelly, but astutely, commented after their one outing of the song: "Possibly an ironic choice of song title for Six"...

Love love love Chicane on pop songs! The discovery of the rate for me. Can someone with hacking skills get into Chicane’s vault and get this and ‘Burnt Out and Falling’ by LSL onto Spotify?

@DJHazey 10
Of course the one not on Spotify for me, listening to an award show live clip on youtube, THAT is the one which is their best.

@Doodvid 9.4
Beautiful! The club/pop sound Pop! would eventually chase in 2004 only this has more soothing vocals.

@berserkboi 8
Very pretty tune!

@iheartpoptarts 6
And a partridge in a pear tree.

@Sprockrooster 1
I do not know what I was watching but at least it was better on the eyes
than the lackluster sound I was hearing.

Oh Sprocky!

I think they just looked a bit naff and amateur on the clip so I likely prejudged too harshly.

Sometimes it’s better not to be distracted by a video.
