I don't know about favorite episode, but there are several favorite scenes...

The episode where Cam & Mitchell were forced to befriend the lesbian couple:

"Come to ours, we'll host."
"I look forward to your frittata."
"Oh why - are you visiting us in 2008?"

I just watched the documentary before the finale, now I’m settling in for the finale. Can’t believe it’s done after 11 years. I was (just about) underage when this began.

I was a bit underwhelmed by the finale. Kinda expected to feel more.

Just watched the documentary, that was sadder than the last episode.

I haven’t watched this show religiously for years, and reading up on some spoilers for the last couple of seasons undoing years of ‘character development’ - I am in no rush to catch up. I just want to say though - when the show was good (season 1-3) it was amazing!

The finale was predictable as could be, but fine in its own show-has-been-running-on-fumes-for-several-years way.

That said, I will miss most of the characters.

The finale would've definitely hit differently if it had come 3-4 years ago. I did feel a tingle of emotion when I watched it, but the fact of the matter is that the show has been omnipresent for 11 years (?!) that it kinda feels it's still on the air.

I enjoyed the finale, but I wasn’t really here for Cam and Mitch’s storyline. Also, I went on the Modern Family subreddit yesterday and I never really saw Haley’s timeline laid out. She pretty much went from talented fashion woman to married mom of two in her parents basement. I wonder what prompted the change in direction for her on behalf of the writers.

Sarah Hyland was pissed off apparently. There are some articles online about how annoyed she was they took all her potential to prove everyone wrong and land a big career and just turn her into a mom who's only in limited episodes.

Manny showed, like, zero growth over 11 years!?

I would guess with Sarah being so sick, they decided to not take the risk of putting her centre stage in case she suddenly needed to take lots of time off. She had 2 kidney transplants during the show's run. That's a lot of uncertainty for a show that must keep going on, as much as it sucks for the character.

Wasn't aware of that - it was curiously absent from the interview!?

I won't miss the weekly misunderstanding between Mitch and Cam that leads the other into assuming the worst.

Lily was great when Aubrey was young, she was a bit forced in the later seasons.

Have been binging season 7/8 today.

I’m one of the few that still thought this show was absolute fold up until about season 8 where it started to become stale. The first 7 or so seasons are some of my favourite seasons of any tv show and, for me, they’ve entered the Friends and Simpsons phase where I can watch any episode at any time and feel immense warmth and joy.

Feels a bit like they had the idea to do young Phil & Claire and ran with it. I didn't hate it. I liked her with Dylan.

I think with the kids they took a bit of a gamble and as they grew up they were a bit limited with where they could go with them. He was a funny pre-teen, but the character just got weird the older he got.

Though in general they reached a point where everyone was just repeating their greatest hits of characteristics.
