In my area, the main way to get it is one particular clinic that specializes in HIV care. It's first come, first serve Mondays only for like a 4 hour window of which I am always at work.

The second dose can be administered any time within a two year period. The first dose is extremely effective on its own and the second dose acts more as a booster to extend immunity. I am actually very proud of public health departments for their rapid response and mobilization despite lack of resources, and for the LGBTQ+ community for being extremely receptive. We have been able to vaccinate thousands in Philly alone.

The Biden Administration also announced that 780k vaccines will be available starting today, which will significantly help boost vaccination efforts. (Definitely would have helped if they were available a month ago, but so it goes)

There's a limited amount in my area and given how many of us there are in California I feel like I should be waiting so the most vulnerable people can get it first, but I also don't want it to get any worse than it already is here.

Can we talk about how woefully inadequate it is to order these vaccines in anticipation of receiving them in mid-2023?

“The U.S. has ordered 5.5 million more vaccine doses for delivery by mid-2023 and has rights to the raw ingredients that could make 11.1 million more doses. U.S. officials said a massive vaccination campaign could still be avoided if communities and individuals take measures to avoid spread.”

Even if all those doses panned out, I don’t think that would even cover every gay man (let alone MSM more generally) in the U.S. The math’s not adding up. Especially if we’re going to need second doses.

I get that it looks flashy in a headline to announce 780,000 vaccines are available, but that news cycle is going to burn out real quick once people realize we’re just exhausting the national stockpile.

And I don’t really expect this to be contained to just the MSM community, anyway. I’d love to be proven wrong, but I think when colleges resume in the fall this is going to spill over into the “general population” and federal officials will do a pretendstobeshocked.gif as if they didn’t know that would happen.

I got to Guy’s Hospital in London before the stated Drop In Vaccine clinic start time and waited for 5 full hours. Made tolerable because of pals with me - most were alone and almost certainly didn’t anticipate that long a wait. I know bookings are now available but if a drop in is your plan in London, plan to get there a few hours before opening (11:30 this weekend and next I believe) - it’s worth it. My poor legs.

No. I planned to say “I work between Edinburgh and London” if I had to, and I don’t have an NHS Number (equivalent is CHI in Scotland I think). They didn’t ask me anything about what I put on the form/s beyond the usual “are you experiencing symptoms” etc.

Everybody please take care out there and get vaccinated if possible...I can imagine a lot of us (and generally people around the world right now) are probably suffering from another virus/pandemic fatigue (both my partner and I certainly are!)...but it's our health and we do have a responsibility to look after it. We can still have fun and enjoy life - but just be careful!
