Movie comments, outbursts, quips and general chatter

I re-watched St Elmo's Fire this past week and learned for the first time Andie MacDowell's character is called Dale Beiberman, and not Dale Beaverman, which I always thought was a barely-disguised little reference to Kirby's obsession with her.

Wow, just realized The Substance connection as Margaret Qualley is Andie MacDowell's daughter and Demi Moore is also in St. Elmo's Fire.

I have a Blu-Ray featuring both St. Elmo's Fire and About Last Night. Even back in the '80s, I was lukewarm to St. Elmo's Fire but About Last Night is great and Demi is fantastic in the movie.

I just finished Mr. Smith Goes to Washington for a work film club - I was so much more gripped by it than I expected to be by a 30s political satire.
I watched this for the first time a few months ago and held my breath throughout the final scene before, to my surprise, breaking into tears by the time he was done with his speech. The earnestness got me, gals!

You know, I'm so happy Lindsay Lohan seems to be thriving. For the longest time, she seemed to be another person people enjoyed beating up on for things that weren't always her fault. That Letterman interview is still absolutely brutal to watch and I am shocked he got away with it. BUT I am happy she's happy and succesful in her personal and professional life. And for what it's worth, I always thought she was a good actress or at the very least had wonderful screen presence so I hope she gets a nice, meaty Hollywood role and some real awards attention eventually.

One of my firmest held beliefs is she should've been Oscar-nominated for The Parent Trap. She's genuinely brilliant in it. And Miss McAdams had the meatier role but Mean Girls lives or dies on Lindsay's performance. The film is a classic in large part thanks to Lindsay. She's always had the chops!

Vinegar Syndrome is a boutique label that releases cult films on Blu Ray. This weekend they released a bunch of films on 4K, the long-awaited Looking for Mr. Goodbar (inspiration for Madonna's Bad Girl video), Congo, Sliver* and Michael Mann's The Keep, which was heavily edited when released to theatres in 1983. The Keep special edition and standard edition both sold out in under two days. I bought all four and they are all fabulous.

Long live physical media.

*Billy Baldwin's ass in 4K is glorious.

Just got back from 'The Lord of the Rings: The War of the Rohirrim'. It was pretty solid and easily better than the Hobbit trilogy.

The animation and the soundtrack were amazing. Perfect for a big screen. The action was very sharp and clear. They could never have done it in a live-action movie.

The story was simple and straightforward, but sometimes that's enough and I like that it's a relatively 'small' story and that the connections to the original trilogy are kept at a minimum.

Reviews have been a little mixed and I fear it'll go a bit under the radar with all the other movies playing.

He/They
True, this.
Although she did follow up with her Oscar worthy performance as Muffy.
She's also amazing in Waxwork
