  2. This deserves some kind of award. Weren't the robots used the only three of their kind? Great movers!

  3. Well it looks like Shakira may sweep the board - they haven't really given her a chance not to! I'm surprised they didn't make up a Shakira video game so she could be in that category too. Ah well, it's all good fun - bring it on!

  4. As usual, it seems to be the artists and songs that were nominated more so than the videos themselves, because the videos for "Hips Don't Lie" and "Promiscuous" are crap. Also, while I like "Ain't No Other Man", I don't consider it to be worthy of video of the year.

I like how Madonna got so many nominations, although "Hung Up" did do pretty well on MTV for a song that American radio pretty much ignored.

  5. Well, I've tried to delay that annoying growing-up thing we're all supposed to do during adolescence as long as possible but I now have to face the truth : I'm too old for MTV.

I probably saw less than 5 of those videos and I only own two albums containing nominated songs(Now compilations notwithstanding).

  6. Oh it's the usual set-up of the same 15 videos up for almost every award. I don't know why they bother having categories in the VMAs; those who do the shortlisting don't seem to know what they mean anyway.

It's a nice bit of exposure for the artists involved and should shift a few more units but, like most awards shows I guess, ultimately meaningless.

  7. Pink only getting one nomination for Stupid Girls is an outrage

  8. I agree with that with P!nk. I also get the feeling Christina has been nominated as its the only thing shes released so far but they feel her comeback needs boosting or something, I like the video, but its hardly groundbreaking or anything is it?

  9. VMAS 2006: Let The Backlashlee Begin!

Not only has Ashlee Simpson been totally ignored bar one small mention (Best Cinematography, the shame) despite her 'new look' but Pink has also been ignored too bar a nomination in the 'pop video'.  So I didn't like it but it made a massive thread on this forum and everyone was talking about it yet she barely gets mentioned. So why have two of America's most well known stars been virtually ignored in favour of (spit, spit) dross like the Red Hot Chilli Peppers?

Actually, I quite like Panic! At The Disco.  Very theatrical!

If Shakira wins any awards for that dire song, it will qualify as an outrage. Thankfully, there are much better nominees in all the categories she's nominated in.

  11. I am hoping Christina will win at least one award
Even though I am sure MTV will make her leave the show empty handed - AGAIN, and still 'ANOM' being nomited for 'Video Of The Year' was hilarious, that video is really nothing to deserve such nomination

But in the end of the day who will win is not the best video, but yes which label paid more for its video to win.
Award shows? The only 'real' one I really consider is the Billboard Music Awards, other than that... bullshit

  12. That's a really dull set of choices. Out of the Best Video section there's only the Panic At The Disco selection that I'd class as a good memorable video. Surely - this year - there's been 5 videos better than Dani California...

  13. I usually get a bit annoyed when someone is in so many categories, but I really hope Shakira does swipe a few - she's fantastic.

  14. It actually looks worth watching this year - a good roster of performers, but sadly no Madge.

So if Kelly and Nelly aren't nominated for video of the year, surely that means neither shall get female video of the year?  Plus Madonna is not scheduled to even appear (she may still be on tour, so don't shout at me), therefore this could pretty much be just a 2 horse race.

  15. Not necessarily. A few years ago, Britney was nominated for video of the year (for "Toxic") yet lost best female video to Beyonce for one that wasn't nominated for video of the year.

  16. That was a crime
If there was a ever a video that deserved more than any other to win ALL categories it was running for, it was 'Toxic'.

  17. Absolutely - although it might seem like an exaggeration, I believe that release gave her the kind of musical hype she hadn't had since her debut single.
