  1. When you finish demoing a new track and already know it's a B-side. Ha.

  4. Any kind soul feel like helping me out with vocal mixing? I'm just never happy with the way I sound and I'd love some second opinion. Nobody else really hears my music

Hit me up sis, off work tomorrow and can take a look x

  6. Yeah, vocals is what I'm most insecure about too.

Work on my album (which is called Chasing The Promised Land) has stalled because of some technical problems. I can't get a certain song to stop distorting, but I'm working with a technician to try and fix the issue.

I should be able to show y'all some tracks soon. My music is ethereal alt-R&B with extremely sad lyrics.

  7. Here's a sample of my lyrics. This song is about racial alienation and also is taking aim at white liberalism:

    You know each other well
    Family from the earth
    Get on so well
I push up through the dirt
    You christen me a flower
Admire my bloom until it hurts

    You'll never weep for me
Though you'll be sure to cry
When my brothers are buried deep
    You'll be sure to cry
    Dress the body in white
    Saying we're doing it right
    You'll cry, you'll cry, you'll cry
You'll cry, but you cannot weep

    You know each other well
    Flaunt your history
    You're making now
    I throw off your symmetry
I try so hard to blend
To not make the circle bend
    I try so hard

    You'll never weep for me
Though you'll be sure to cry
When my brothers are buried deep
    You'll be sure to cry
    Dress the body in white
    Saying we're doing it right
    You'll cry, you'll cry, you'll cry
You'll cry, but you cannot weep

    I know you try
    But good intentions always die
    I know you try
But what good is that to me down here

    You'll never weep for me
Though you'll be sure to cry
When my brothers are buried deep
    You'll be sure to cry
    Dress the body in white
    Saying we're doing it right
    You'll cry, you'll cry, you'll cry
You'll cry, but you cannot weep

I hope y'all can actually hear it in a few weeks. That's when I hope to have the project mastered.

On another note, I feel like my lyrics, melodies, and instrumentals are all on point, but my singing is problematic and brings the songs down somewhat. I'm trying to learn to love my voice but it's hard. I don't have much power and I have a slight lisp. I definitely sound unique though. I have a kind of breathy quasi-bluesy slightly twangy kind of thing going on. Hard to describe.

  8. This thread is giving me hope that I can come up with something eventually. I love to sing and to write, but I am garbage on the production end and everything just ends up sounding horrific.

Sup y'all. I'm branching out as a freelance Audio Engineer, so I've started offering a Mastering gig on Fiverr.

Willing to do a few free projects from folks on here for free in trade for a review! Message me through Fiverr and I can create a custom order. I'll be posting a Mixing & Mastering gig soon, too.

  10. I recently submitted this track to a songwriting contest:

There’s no demons on your shoulders
When you get older you’ll realise how that’s profound.
Worries just seem to evade you
Or you just walk through each crisis as if a cloud.

    Chorus:
You got a crystal in your pocket
Did you wish upon a star?
I hear you praying every morning
And the songs you write on your guitar, ah

You just dive in like an ocean
Well, that’s a notion that I could get onboard with.
Don’t believe in fear or regrets
Those common threats we share but you just dismiss.

    Chorus

    Middle 8:
Some say “she’s a hippy chick”
“Imagine it – to have your head stuck in the clouds”
    I think you’re winning, kid
    I envy it
I’d go back, do the same, if history allowed
    If history allowed

    Chorus 2:
You got a crystal in your pocket
Did you wish upon a star?
I hear you praying every morning
And the songs you write on your guitar, ah
You got a crystal in your pocket
And your spirit is to be revered
You hold your dreams inside a locket
That never once seemed to leave your skin

  12. What is the best place to host your own music/demos?

Is something like bandcamp free? I want to put up my stuff in WAV format, but it's weird/shit so I want people to be able to download it for free.

Yep, BandCamp is free to host and you can offer downloads for free too.

  14. Oh wow, thanks for the quick reply. That's amazing. I use bandcamp a lot to purchase digital and physical music.

Can I use that same account to upload music or do I have to create an 'artist' page.

  16. I use Bandcamp and yeah, it's free and it's very easy to use/navigate. Just be aware that because it is free, if anyone downloads your music Bandcamp will take a cut of any profit. Which I guess is fair seeing as you're able to host all your music in one place (for download or streaming) without paying an on-going fee.

You mention about allowing people to download your music for free though, so the above shouldn't be an issue in that case.

I think you may need to create a specific artist's page to start uploading your own music but it's been many years since I started so best to check as Sam points out.

  17. Thanks, I will check it out over the weekend. I love Bandcamp.

I wouldn't charge, I just want a place to host. My 'music' is more of a hobby.

I remastered a 'fake' film score I did between 2006-2008 for a futuristic sci-fi film, it is mostly industrial electropunk, broken down acid with hip hop beats.....lots of samples recorded on an MP3 player. The bass in one track in my washing machine.

I wouldn't charge as it is mostly experimental, and I do it for my own enjoyment (making beats/sounds make me appreciate real producers/artists!)

  19. Firstly these monkey things give me nightmares, so I'm walking into this with a how dare you attitude.

Secondly this is GORGEOUS. I'd send this around everywhere if I were you because it has such a distinct warmth to it I can see it all over playlists around Spotify
