NAMIE AMURO Discography Rate 「Part One」【...】

That's nice but I was also subtweeting your First Love shade, beast.
I tried to avert the attention from this...
@evilsin sorry your fave never hit the highs of first love xx
I can't do anything about the fact that First Love is a 7 and CAN YOU CELEBRATE is a 10. And no one hit the highs of Fist Love though, so...
I'll be surprised if Something 'Bout the Kiss survives this round ngl
Leave her alone!

she/her

We say goodbye to 2 people's 11 in this next batch

CROSS OVER: 7.68
Highest Score:
10 (@otenkiame, @digitalkaiser), 9.5 (@Cutlery, @FINISH LINE)
Lowest Score: 5 (@vikeyeol, @soratami), 6 (@Remorque)

"CROSS OVER" was originally released as the B-Side to Namie's 2000 single "PLEASE SMILE AGAIN". It would later appear on the album break the rules released later that year. The single featured "TK original mix" which fades out with an instrumental outro, whereas the "album mix" ends with a minute long rap by Poppa L.Q. The song is about... actually, I have no idea what's about it. Misunderstanding in relationships maybe?

Either way Cutlery sent in some amended commentary just in time, how'd he know I'd have to delay this result enough for him to change it? Who knows! "Starts off with an acoustic charm that slowly -but surely- evolves into a left-field yet amazing sound that's especially blessed by the dramatic piano, synthy effects and just multiple production quirks and details that made this an instant standout for me. Namie's voice really sells it through the choruses ending with "Cross over / Watashi to nite ita"" EachSmallStep isn't too moved by the rap, "Her voice resonates prettily and the highs are fluid. The warped oohs in the back are cool. The rap in the album one doesn’t do much, but at least it fills space."

Otenkiame, however, prefers the Album mix, "While the single version sounds a bit rough and unfinished, the album version is just all kinds of good! Funnily enough, I've always found the electronic sounds on the song to sound rather futuristic even though it's got quite a bit of a 90's flare to it. She even got a rapper on the track and didn't even credit him. Another savage move from the Queen." send photo would take her to prom for as a pity date, "She’s a quirky girl, I guess she can hang." A bit confused if evilsin enjoys this or not, "So experimental and shit! The melodies are amazing, hence I would've loved to here a shorter version with more verses."
And vikeyeol has an issue with the melodies, "I really like the production on this one actually, but the melodies do absolutely nothing for me."

no more tears: 7.73
Highest Score: 10 (@evilsin, @aaronhansome, @FINISH LINE), 9 (@vague)
Lowest Score: 5 (@MarkB, @vikeyeol), 6 (@yuuurei, @digitalkaiser)

"no more tears" was originally released on break the rules in 2000. It was then released as the final single on the album along with "think of me" in 2001. It would become Namie's first Double A-Side single as a solo artist, the first of many more to come. "no more tears" didn't receive a music video treatment. break the rules also features a 9 minute remix on the end of the album. It also featured on LOVE ENHANCED♥single collection as a "new mix".

RUNAWAY has heard better, "not my fav single of hers, but it’s good." send photo has 9 minutes of his life to spare on that remix, "Ddd, I get my life to the 9 minute remix, it’s so full of life. As for the original… it exists." evilsin is a big fan of this song, "Simply put, this is probably my favorite Komuro produced song of Namie's. The key change and the extended ending are so good."

EachSmallStep finds it endearing, "A charming track about moving forward. Can feel repetitive, but little additions as the song evolves help." Otenkiame also appreciates the song & remix, "This track just has the signature Namie happy style to it. There's no way you can't feel how happy she sounds while singing it! Definitely a cute balladish pop song, and it even gets a rather good (though lengthy) disco remix for it."

Cutlery has found a lot to love with this song, "A solid and underrated opener, I love the consistent calm atmosphere that, accompanied by small details such as the little effect in the pre-chorus or the lowkey strings during the “What’s going on with you and me?” choruses, helps express the acceptance in the lyrics and her voice throughout the song."

And welcome a new challenger to the stage...

PRIVATE: 7.75
Highest Score:
11 (@Cutlery, @FINISH LINE), 10 (@otenkiame, @vikeyeol)
Lowest Score: 5 (@soratami, @Jawshxx, @Gintoki), 6 (@yuuurei)

"PRIVATE" was released in 1996 on Namie's second album, SWEET 19 BLUES. "PRIVATE" was one of the first songs recorded for the album. Takahiro Maeda said when he originally wrote the song TK wasn't satisfied with rapping and it had to be re-done, which gave us the result we know and love today. The music is a giant mash up of dozens of genres, something Namie did quite often in her earlier career.

EachSmallStep describes the song as ethereal, "Not bad for a lounge song. The ethereal quality is one-of-a-kind, especially when lines fade in and out." Jawshxx feels like the song deserves the same fate as Watch your step!! (a slight exaggeration on my behalf), "I mean.. I don’t really know how to rate this one. It’s not bad but it is definitely not something I would ever come back to. Feels more like an intro than a proper track." Vikeyeol has been watching so funky porn, "One of her best album tracks! Does the instrumental to this sound like porn music? Yes. Does that make it any less incredible? No."

Speaking of porn, evilsin reckons Namie is about to make her own, "Ooh, this is giving me some Janet teas. I like how spacious this feels, certainly creates a proper atmosphere. And did she just asked the guy to give her some more head?" RUNAWAY would shave down a minute or so, "kinda overlong and boring." Send photo is feeling nostalgic, "Reminds me of that Volcano chapter of Paper Mario." Otenkiame is getting their life to this genre hopping & tone, "Another track utilizing quite a bit of rapping, and I love it! Laidback and subtly sexual, I adore the sultry and almost tropical-feel the tracks gives off."

And now a word from our elevens:
FINISH LINE
stans, "Tetsuya Komuro gives Namie one of her most eclectically 90s instrumentals on PRIVATE, which features shades of jazz, r&b and acid house (I love Wikipedia). Namie sounds unusually effortless while tackling Maeda’s raps on this song, resulting in something sexy that wouldn’t sound out of place on the janet. album."

Cutlery's wig is SNATHCED, "Gimme some more LIFE with this ultra atmospheric, excellent chill jam! Ms. Amuro did that, she sounds so provocative and whispery during the verses, and the chorus only enhances that feeling by adding more layers of production and liveliness to the atmosphere. In retrospect, this is the one true antecessor to Come, but done in Sweet 19 Blues’ own brand of J-pop."
