Damage should have gone earlier. It's good, but not THAT good.

Fighter was released as Namie's 46th single with Dear Diary on October 26th, 2016. The song was written and produced by Emyli, and co-produced by Reason', who apparently made their production debut with this song. Namie added the song to her last album/compilation, Finally. It was used as the insert song for Death Note Light up the NEW world and the ending theme song of Death Note NEW GENERATION. The co-producer of the film, Takahiro Sato, originally considered Red Hot Chili Peppers & Lenny Kravitz to make the theme song but instead enlisted Namie to show Western audiences the power of Japanese artists. Namie stated she was very honoured to participate on the soundtrack.

The single debut at #3 on the Oricon Weekly Charts, selling 44,880 copies that week, her highest first week sales since Go Round/YEAH OH in 2012. It sold 62,141 in 2016, making it the 89th best selling single of that year. The song individually peaked at #15 on the Japan Hot 100.

Miyawakiwi has high praise for the music video, "The pv is probably the best one in her entire career and the song’s pretty good!" It took some convincing for otenkiame, "I was not here for this song at all at its release. It sounded like some generic reject dance track. But, guess what? I started bopping to it and getting life from the elongated "Fighter" bits. So, uninteresting story short, the stan in me won over. I still have no idea what she's singing without looking at the lyrics. Queen of Mangled English." Vague is less forgiving, "am i bopping? yes. but i'm not happy about it. this is too generic for her, tbh!" Evilsin gives a generally positive review, "Geez, I always forget how hard this goes in. I can even forgive the lyrics (apart from "If you try to put me out / Then I'll burn you all" which, let's be honest, is ace) and the lack of another chorus in the end, because that "fi-i-i-i-ighter" past is so damn good."

lovlands has two very unrealistic dreams, "One of Namie's fiercest tracks ever, Namie's rap in the 2nd chorus goes OFF and leaves me wishing she'd do the rap verse in Singing In the Rain by LOONA's Jinsoul for an OT12 Japanese version remix featuring Namie for their Japan debut. But anyways! Pure excellence and I feel like it deserves more love." Loona Japanese debut? Namie making music past 2017? Kneehigh Girl feels it ends too soon, "Overall, I really like this song - verses, rap, chorus and all. The biggest issue with this song, though, is that it’s too short. Just as the final chorus starts to pick up, the song ends. It’s such an anti-climax." Cutlery finds it middling, "EDMie can be very hit or miss to me, and this lands somewhere in the middle of my scale." And _hazzie_ almost gave it everything, "brilliant song could have been an 11 from me."

Good. Yeah-Oh can go next.

YEAH-OH was released as the fourth and final single from Namie's 10th album, Uncontrolled, on March 21st, 2012. It was bundled with Go Round and was written & produced by the same people. YEAH-OH includes writing credits from Japanese R&B singer, DOUBLE, who recorded Black Diamond with Namie. The song's chorus samples Harry Belafonte's Banana Boat Song (Day-O) which was also sampled by Jason Derulo. A version sung completely in English was included on Uncontrolled, titled SINGING "YEAH-OH".

The single debut at #4 on the Oricon Weekly Charts and sold 46,983 copies. It charted for nine weeks and sold 64,691 in total, making it the 12th best selling single of March, 2012. The song charted individually at #34 and was certified Gold for digital downloads over 100,000.

send photo is sensible, "whew I stanned the shit out of this when it first came out but it hasn’t aged well at all, has it? I’ll settle on an 8 for nostalgia’s sake." Kneehigh Girl isn't as generous, "I absolutely loved this song back when it was released, but listening to it now, I have definitely outgrown it. I don’t know if it’s my taste in music that has changed or that the song hasn’t aged well, or a combination of both. It’s still okay, but not as much fun as some of the other upbeat songs on the album." Otenkiame had restored faith, "This darker dance track made me feel relieved in the direction Namie was taking, to be honest. I think I was still a bit uneasy by her direction post PAST < FUTURE or something. As for the track itself, it's pretty freaking hot with the mysterious tones, and the rap-like bridge gives me vibes of Namie's more urban past releases. And YES at her cramming all those words into one line "Dancing all night I sing tomaranai / Dancing all night I say it tamaranai"~"

Miyawakiwi needs more, "The chorus leaves me wanting more, but the verses... i'm addicted to them." Evilsin might be onto something with his suggestion,"For some reason people were really going nuts for this one, but to me this is a pretty standard and faceless tune. It does bop a bit with its combo of pre-chorus / chorus / post-chorus, still it's not as exciting as it could have been. It high-key sounds like something Jason Derulo would record..." Ana Raquel is suspicious, "Is there a sample on this? Or is it sampled somewhere???? It sounds familiar." Weslicious can get down, "A basic bop for a basic YEAH-HO like me." And _hazzie_ is in agreement, "this song is kinda messy but I love it so much."

I can't help but turn up the volume everytime I get to the middle 8 of YEAH-OH. The bilingual version is much better than the English version, obviously.

I'm sad to see both of these songs go but I have to agree they are both basic bops. But sometimes in life, all you need is a basic bop!

Let's Go: 8.22
10
(@lovlands, @otenkiame, @Pinky25), 9.5 (@MarkB, @eliminathan, @Weslicious)
5 (@Cutlery), 6 (@Mikl C)

Let's Go was one of the four new songs released with Uncontrolled in June, 2012. It's the only song out of the four that contains Japanese lyrics, as ONLY YOU, Hot Girls & In The Spotlight (TOKYO) are sung completely in English. It was produced by T-SK, Tesung Kim & the Nervo sisters, who were responsible for YEAH-OH, Go Round & Love Story, also from Uncontrolled. It peaked at #29 on the RIAJ Digital Chart.

Otenkiame is thoroughly impressed, "Love this track. Love the music video. Like, really love the music video. Cannot explain how hot she looks giving that rocker chic vibe. I don't know if this is underrated or not, but I feel like she should've performed this track more, because it really is just made to be sung live. The "let's go!" portions in the chorus, I imagine, would really get a crowd pumped up." Miyawakiwi ain't feeling the video, "This song deserved a better pv, with more dancing but yeah-oh, i still love it." Send photo here with an important PSA, "let’s pokemon go to the polls." Lovlands says let's go to iTunes, "This should of been a #1 hit worldwide."

Weslicious has a few producers to thank, "A true hidden gem. The instrumental makes this." Maybe he can go halfsy with evilsin on a fruit basket for the Nervos, "The synths are so... springy and lively, definitely the best part of the song for me. She also looked stunning with the bangs and in the white blazer in the PV. All in all, I rarely listen to this, but it has it's moments, especially when suddenly it's in my head and I can't shake it off until I listen to the song." Vague will not be pitching in, "i find the backing track is a kind of ... a mess at parts (that... laser sound? idk what to call it, but it feels like it belongs to another song). however, the melody is great, so i still mostly dig this."

Can't believe Let's Go ranked higher than so many good songs. It's alright but it's not better than YEAH-OH, Fighter, Fashionista, Neonlight Lipstick, In The Spotlight and so on.

Now ROCK U, Stardust in My Eyes, La La La and Poison need to go!

And that real mess Rock U is still hanging around!!
Now ROCK U to go!

ROCK U with ravex: 8.25

ROCK U was originally released by ravex on their debut album, trax, on April 29, 2009. It was then included on Namie's collaboration best of, Checkmate!, 2 years later on April 27, 2011. It was written by frequent collaborator VERBAL & produced by ravex, who also had tracks with Anna Tsuchiya, BoA & Maki Goto for their album. The trio consists of Shinichi Osawa (WHAT A FEELING, NAKED), Tomoyuki Tanaka pka Fantastic Plastic Machine & Taku Takahashi from m-flo (Luvotomy). Their one & only album debut at #20 on the Oricon Weekly Charts and charted for 6 weeks. ROCK U was used as the theme song for Call Of Duty: Black Ops in Japan.

Namie gotta start handing out some panadol, vague is getting nauseous, "there's ... a lot going on here and i'm not sure it all 100% works for me, to be quite honest. the vocal melody is nice, but the backing track gives me a headache tbh." Pass some over to Kneehigh Girl, "The song is near perfect, but that vinyl-scratching, or whatever it is, seriously hurts my ears!" Maybe just some earplugs for _hazzie_, "like on paper this is a solid 10 but there is a completely horrible squiggly messy high pitched sound effect that’s takes over the whole song and when you hear it and focus on it it’s unlistenable. I’m sorry if I’ve now brought it to your attention and ruined the song."

Pinky25 is enjoying it, "Best song on the whole album! I was just watching a documentary about early hip hop and this song to me has always sounded like early 80’s hip hop/ techno to me." Miyawakiwi is grateful to be alive, "I almost got a seizure when i was watching the past>future tour, but i survived, then next year she flipped me the bird, queen. it's sad ravex was a one time thing :(." Evilsin lives for the defiant attitude, "What a fucking rush! Curse, my abrasive queen! I love me some ravex, half of their album is exceptional with the other half being quite interesting. I'm really glad that Namie worked with them. And the result? Whew, what a ride! So right-in-your-face and right-to-the-point. I adore the fact that she loves performing this and flipping off the fans in the audience. Be a rebel a bitsy, hun."

Namie can do no wrong to Otenkiame, "Another of her electronic tracks that goes off live! In fact, I think it does even better in a live setting than the studio (my biggest complaint is she didn't bring the growling/aggressive sound into the studio). And the Queen had fans pressed because she said "get the fuck out"! As if she couldn't say that!" Cutlery wishes that we had a visual for the track, "Namie said GET THE FUCK OUT. The production just doesn’t let you go for a single moment in this party life bop that she pulls off perfectly. It’s honestly homophobic that this out of all collabs didn’t get a video bc it called for an energetic af choreo and some lewks!"
