Neighbours - unmissable drama

Neighbours is taking its annual Christmas break in the UK from today and apparently won't be back on Channel 5 for a month! I don't know if I'll be able to cope without my weekday fix of ludicrous storylines, but at least there won't be any tiresome Michael surf montages for a while.

This musical tribute did cheer me up though.

I loved Neighbours in the early 00s when Holly Valance was in it.
They used to be great comedy and drama but i have not watched it for 6 years.

Re: Neighbours

Same. At one point I wouldn't ever miss an episode, but I haven't watched it in a couple of years now. It just became too awful.

Re: Neighbours

I think it's actually improved a lot in the last six months - most characters are likeable and relatable. Although it's not as dramatic as other soaps, it still manages to be very high quality.

Also, newer characters like Sonya, Kyle, Jade and Rhys have breathed fresh life in the show.

Re: Neighbours

Used to be great, now it's wank. How many times have Susan and Karl split up since I've watched I wonder.

Re: Neighbours

I was obsessed with it when Rosie, Pepper, Frazer et al were in it. Now..not so much.

They were only in it for about 3 months!

I like it very much but it's a shame we can't sync our break with the one in Australia as we must only be a month or so behind.

Jade is probably the best new character. Sonya is a bit too goody, goody despite her past. I'm glad they're finally doing something with Malcolm at last and I pissed my pants when Rita from Prisoner appeared the other day.

Re: Neighbours

I think it's improved a lot in recent months. They made am effort to give more of the older characters something to do, and the teenagers haven't been quite so annoying.

I hate Rhys and Michael though.

Re: Neighbours

I haven't watched this in ages. I remember it used to be Blue Peter, Newsround, then Neighbours. Afternoon entertainment sorted.

Seeing as it's Christmas...

Re: Neighbours

Neighbours was magnificent in 2003 / 2004 when you had Izzy and Karl, Sky, Lyn being by herself due to the actor of Joe being sacked, etc. I stuck with the show from 2005 - 2007 when it went absolutely potty with Sindi going insane, Sky's baby being stolen twice!, that awful actress that played Katya, the fabulous Elle. I couldn't be bothered when it had the huge revamp with lots of money invested in to it, I just couldn't stand Ned's son and that boring Parker family, specifically Bridget. They also gave Susan a long-term health problem which was a huge mistake, it was a pretty confusing storyline too.

I remember being anti-social and not going out when it was on, being pissed off at Christmas and Wimbledon breaks. There was a point in 2008 where I just stopped watching Neighbours and Home & Away all together.

I used to be obsessed with that 20 years Neighbours dance with Izzy on a swing above everyone else.

Re: Neighbours

Neighbours is horrible these days. I still have it on in the background often enough to know the rough storyline, though. I hate the new additions to the show!!! Bring back Lyn, Harold, Zeke, Declan I, Summer and Izzy..

Also, Callum lives in my area - I've seen him at the gym a few times.

Re: Neighbours

I missed it for a while when it moved to Five (bit of a dick move considering a third of the UK couldn't even pick up the channel at the time) so I never saw the likes of 'Didge' and co. I think it was October 2009 before I started watching it again, and in that time it's changed so much.

Thankfully Susan Bower (the executive producer) is leaving the show so it might get good again.

Re: Neighbours

I agree with mostly everything steste said. It all went wrong when they swapped the amazing Timmins family for the dull as dishwater Parkers.

Instead of trying to 'humanize' the show and get 'back to their roots' or whatever they said in 2007, they should have embraced the crazy and continued down the path of plane crashes, dreams, evil Harold, clairvoyants etc. and instead it ended up a chore to watch because it was so dull.

Re: Neighbours

The Parkers were brought in as a family? Wow, glad I missed that. I only remember Stuart the cop and his brother Ned that couldn't read.

Yeah, Stuart left and they had rubbish Ned, BUILT THE ENTIRE FAMILY AROUND HIM, in order to give him a stronger base in the show and put him together with Janae (ruining her) and gave him an annoying shit of a son.
