Neighbours - unmissable drama

Daniel MacPherson has had a more successful career than I thought - he seems to have worked solidly since leaving Neighbours and has recently had a role in an Apple+ show (Foundation).

I guess that explains why his name was listed alongside the big-hitters (Kylie, Jason, Margot, Guy, Natalie, Delta, Holly) on the closing credits.

K so I didn’t know (or recognise) a lot of people, but well up I did!

Weird that Kylie only uttered about 5 words.
  • Who was the guy who walked past when Susan said “some were just lost”?
That’s Finn. He basically terrorized her and then he got pushed off a Cliff and Susan basically rehabilitated him because he lost his memories and then he snapped once his memories returned and drowned in the grave he dug up for her.

Natalie Imbruglia said that she’s still friends with the actress who plays Annalise!

I watched the finale and as someone who has loved this all their life I was just relieved. Neighbours means so much to me and knowing that there were all these extra eyes on it I really wanted them to nail the landing and they really did. My pure joy at Izzy landing on her feet with Shane was everything. I think it captured everything I love about the show and felt a fitting end. Seeing Hendrix dancing and Sonia with her family were particularly nice touches for the recent fans. I mean it really was as perfect as it could have possibly been and the end with Susan just encapsulated that love.

I did notice that Stephanie McIntosh was listed on the credits but hadn't spotted her in the episode. It turned out that she'd been edited out of the Channel 5 version. Interestingly, I looked up then that it turned out a line from Natalie Imbruglia to Ned was cut as well. I'm not sure if there were any other differences between the two broadcasts though.

Steph was the one who has the grainiest display during the video messages to Toadie scene.

Natalie said “hi son!” in the video. I have a feeling that was Ben Hall’s genuine first reaction too!

Edit: Just saw that it was cut.

I'd not watched Neighbours for a very long time (my 'era' was around '87 to '91), but like many, I've tuned in to this final week for the memories and have to say it was wonderfully done and quite emotional seeing the characters I avidly followed every day in the mid-late '80's in 2022. I especially loved that Jane and Mike got their happy ending, and Madge was my favourite character so seeing her again, albeit fleetingly was a beautiful touch. Like a lovely walk down memory lane with some old friends, it was a cracking send-off.

Was Kerry there?
Her death made quite an impression on me back when I used to watch.
Googled if Melanie made a return too, surprised to see her character had actually already returned last year.. and was the one getting married?
(What happened with her and Joe?)

It took me a couple of minutes to realise the moustached one was Tad! He was once at Top of the Pops when I was there (I assume it was when he was over in the UK filming 2 Pints of Lager ..., but also Holly Valance was on so maybe he was there for her) and I asked him for a lighter. He didn't have one.

I thought the finale was really lovely and well done. I haven’t watched the show in years (pretty much since I left uni) but it’s crazy to think how big it once was. The moments and throwbacks to the 80s and early 90s were lost on me as I wasn’t born or was too young, but I loved the cameos from the people that were in it when I used to watch.

Susan’s monologue was perfectly done and struck the right chord.

I was watching old clips earlier and Melanie’s first scenes as Henry’s girlfriend came up. I’d forgotten how much I loved her laugh.

Susan’s finale monologue wrapping everything, I don’t know a better woman.

Well I watched it finally… I am absolutely floored! Perfect ending, just wonderful

not Jane getting her happy ending with Mike being the storyline I didn’t know I needed

If we’re thirsting after old cast members Lance still has it
LANCE! I’d forgotten about him, I adored him.

I was a blubbering mess by the end. Neighbours was my mum’s favourite show, she watched it since when Kylie and Jason were in it, so it was always on in my house. She died literally a year ago this week, it felt like the show couldn’t have continued without her watching it haha. I spent the whole episode thinking she would have loved it. When Susan did her monologue and mentioned lost loved ones, it just finished me. I didn’t realise what a big part of her life it was, so to relive it and see all the old characters made me feel very close to her again. What a beautiful episode, such a lovely tribute to a great little show.

Kylie barely speaking was a bit weird though.

Most of the cast seem to kind of want it to end, as well, so I think it is over for good.

I don't think that's the case from the cast, since they all seem really sad, but I think they know more about the behind-the-scenes efforts to save the show, since they knew about a year ago that Channel 5 wouldn't keep fully funding it. There must be some story behind the 'revamp' earlier in the year - maybe they hoped if it looked better then Ten would put it back on the main channel or another Australian broadcaster would pick it up.

At a stretch - Izzy,
Karl technically died once I think
Libby might have flatlined once?

I can't think of any others?

I love hope the episode was built around Jane - she has such a lovely quality. I *hated* Paul and Terese getting back together, especially when it was built around Terese saying 'Well I'll just accept you're a massive bastard who will lie and manipulate me'. I wept like a baby after it ended.

I loved Paul and Terese getting back together. I think had they known the end was definitely coming, they wouldn’t have taken Paul quite as far as they did earlier in the year but I still stan.

@toby3000 I think one of the cast interviews earlier this week revealed that aesthetic revamp from the start of 2022 was a deliberate attempt to make the show more attractive to other UK broadcasters who could jump in and co-finance with Ten.
