  1. Finished Metroid Dread today. I got like... 70% item completion or so? Once I got the Power Bomb I thought about backtracking and getting everything else but I got too annoyed to do it. I liked the game a lot but I wish the world was a continuous whole instead of a bunch of areas connected by loading screens.

Samus serves in it though. The animations, the characterization, the suit design... an icon, a legend. Except for that very last upgrade nn

  2. Every now and again a random silly pointless discovery I made in Mario Kart 8 rears its ugly head back into some form of popular Nintendo-adjacent media, this time it was Did You Know Gaming which is kind of icon behaviour.

  3. Now that there's some additional variety to the environments I'm fully hooked on SMT 5. It's exactly what I was looking for in a modern turn based JRPG, even if the punishing combat keeps me paranoid at all times of losing progress. At 20 hours deep I still feel like I'm just scratching the surface.

  4. I have recently been swallowed whole (for like... the tenth time) by Zelda: Breath of the Wild. In the years that I've been playing I finally, after 150hrs+ that I've spent with the game, decided it was time to finish the main quest. A mildly disappointing finale in my opinion but then again how could any boss fight do justice to a game whose strength is in the quieter moments and never ending exploration. I am so excited for the sequel.

  5. The Kingdom Hearts cloud versions are up for preorder and will be released on 10 Feb.

I was very much looking forward to finally getting to play this series, but I tried the KH Final Mix demo and... it's a disaster. Feels like watching a laggy 360p YouTube video, even without any enemies on screen. And I honestly wouldn't say that my Internet connection is bad. I'm not even gonna try KH3.

It's sad that they couldn't just properly port the games, because this is honestly ridiculous.

  6. Truly hilarious that 1.5 and 2.5 couldn’t get an actual port; the way Square fully fumbled the bag.

  7. Look how they 4:3’d my boy

  8. I caved and got a Switch OLED, since most of my playtime is handheld and the battery life of my launch Switch has gotten to be horrendous. It's definitely a no-brainer if you're a first-time Switch buyer--it feels a lot more premium and the screen provides a noticeable difference in the quality of the visuals. I've had fun going back to old games and seeing how they look on a display that pops a little (a lot) more. All of the other non-screen and non-battery improvements are nice-to-haves, I'd say, but not essential if you're looking for more reasons to upgrade. The audio does sound fuller, but I realize most people use headphones anyway. So, meh. And the kickstand makes tabletop play a lot more appealing, yet I can't help but wonder why they didn't design it that way in the first place.

The Joy-Con, meanwhile, are showing their age and probably the least-premium feeling part of the Switch at this point. I think there's a lot they can do to improve them for whatever the Switch 2 ends up being. Everything feels too click-y and the analog sticks have their obvious problems. Plus, "HD Rumble" has started to feel a lot less impressive after adjusting to the DualSense for the past year.

All in all: Solid hardware iteration from Nintendo, if you look at it from the standpoint of this being a GBA SP, DS Lite, New 3DS, etc. It's a worthy addition among that lineup.

  9. Majora’s Mask has been announced for the virtual console next month. A very interesting move considering there are still rumours of a Zelda collection for Switch.

I guess that means Majora won’t be on there if it ever happens?

  10. Super hyper to play Majora again. The new patch also fixed the problems in Ocarina with the way water was displaying.

Banjo-Kazooie and Majora, I’m so excited to play these games again in such an accessible way. Just finishing off Paper Mario. I dropped it on the WiiU virtual console but I’m having a blast with it now.

  11. I always just pictured a Wind Waker/Twilight Princess bundle than an entire collection, but Mario 64 is on the expansion pack and still part of the 3D All Stars collection, so wouldn't put it past them.

  12. True, the rumours I believe were always Majora/Twilight/Wind Waker

  13. I thought it was just ports of the Wii U Wind Waker and Twilight Princess remasters, either released together or separately. I don't think there were plans to bring any other old Zelda games to the Switch, virtual console aside

  14. The rumours were a ‘Zelda Allstars’ in the vein of the Mario one. So Ocarina, Wind Waker and Twilight Princess. There was a lot of hope that they’d have Majora on there as well.

  15. I’m still holding out hope for a remastered/reimagined Ocarina or Majora one day…

  16. I started Super Mario 3D World and it's so much fun, I'm loving the level designs so far. I'm also glad the game isn't too hard to begin with (I think it will definitely get there based on videos I've seen) since I've basically rage-quit Crash 4 for being punishingly hard ddd.

  17. It is really good. Between the main game and Bowser's Fury, which is excellent, I honestly enjoyed it more than Odyssey.

  18. Speculation was Ocarina remaster and WiiU Wind Waker/Twilight remasters in a collection. But honestly after the Metroid Prime Trilogy debacle with Prime rumoured to be releasing remastered and solo now, I imagine plans have changed here too.

  19. Fingers crossed Nintendo releases the Wind Waker and Twilight Princess as a 2 in 1 thing rather than two full price games. And soon, hopefully. I think there isn't really anything lined up for Q2, so...

Those two and Xenoblade Chronicles X are basically the only worthwhile Wii exclusives left to port, right?

  20. Pretty much! Everything else has been ported or received a direct sequel. Kirby Magic Paintbrush and Starfox Zero will never see a rerelease due to their controls. I guess after that you’ve just got Devils Third ddd.
