Not That Kind of Rate: Anastacia | Finished

Whoosh at the average score jump! Poor that Omar Sosa collab, I really didn't think it would be so tanked.

Someday My Prince Will Come - 6,5
~ This is such a random elimination. I definitely thought it would escape the bottom 5 at least. Most likely among my least played Anastacia songs (I probably played it like 2 or 3 times before this rate), since it's so niche and inessential. I really like the trip hop elements in the production, they're quite cool and make the song relaxing and slightly interesting. Then again, it's such a random rendition of a song (I'm currently playing Virtual Villagers, and the instrumental reminds me of that game lol), so it's a fine elimination.
Didn't really deserve to do this badly, though.

The next album track to leave must be from "It's a Man's World". I'll be surprised if it isn't.

Mi Negra, Tu Bombón was not the song within the first batch to be the bottom song. But the song that was then hasn't leaped much further since.

My lowest score in the rate goes. Honestly I’m Outta Love was better off without this as a b-side. The juxtaposition in quality between those tracks on the CD single is far too much. The artwork for this is an alternate CD single cover from I'm Outta Love. The worst in my opinion so I had no issue tossing it to this b-side. It never grasped me and now many years later I can see why. It feels very unfinished in production. Also the lyrics are far from great. Guess I do agree with the label leaving this of the album. This was the moment Crushin’ needed. I do feel like Crushin’ and this one are from the same recording session as they both have a basic Disney and more teenpop feel to it. @Maki seems to agree with me on this one: "Yeah, this is very much a B-side material. One of her weakest songs overall, actually. The chorus is cute and memorable, but the rest is so damn non-existent. The flat production doesn't help it, either." @londonrain calls out the lyrics of this and giving a prime example ""You manifest the D in destiny"? I SCREAMED." Screaming alongside with you! @livefrommelbs misses that unique Anastacia spark here "There are SO many songs from this era that just blend into a sea of maudlin sameness for me. This is one of those songs."

Baptize My Soul - 5,5
~ The correct first B-side to leave the rate for sure - it turns out that this is my lowest score out of the optional songs. Definitely among her most inessential songs, too. And the scores/commentary pretty much says it all - it received a ton of scores around 5. It literally sounds like it was recorded in one take, and is so dull (except the chorus).
Oh, and the lyrics are hilarious now that @londonrain brought them up (who has a lot of these gems and dragging among commentary from what I've seen!)

My lowest score in the rate goes.
The way you completely blocked one of the songs (and I can definitely understand why lol).

Me reading all that commentary in the eliminations.

Hope y'all enjoy more likes for @Sprockrooster - instead of getting them yourselves in an active thread!

My scores... wait maybe I shouldn't post these to not get dragged, but they will be interesting when It's a Man's World is getting dumped. Why did you all do to that and none of them hitting bottom 3?!
Mi Negra, Tu Bombón - 3.
Someday My Prince Will Come - 4. A tad boring.
Baptize My Soul - 4. I'm never a fan of religious songs unlike Judas, but that's another discussion.

I do not want to remember it. Especially the batch of this songs it is in is sheer excellence. A deep sadness it has not gone yet.

Anastacia telling some guy how he manifests the D is the kind of energy I want in 2021.
Manifesting the D is definitely a mood.

Now I have Journey To The Past stuck in my head. Not what I expected from this thread.
I hope it is a good thing!

Baptize My Soul - 4. I'm never a fan of religious songs unlike Judas, but that's another discussion.

Me to some of your scoring choices:
Even if you decide to not post your scores, I'll expose them... just you wait.

By the way, I kind of miss Sprocky's favourite commentary corner, but it makes sense to not do it here because of the lack of commentary (though, if that was a thing in this rate, I'm sure the 90% of it would feature only @berserkboi, @londonrain and me).

I kind of agree with this. I find them... cringey (but they can still be great). "Judas" is an amazing 10/10 song, though.
Forgot to mention that two of the songs from "Not That Kind" received a lower score from me than "Baptize My Soul".

I can't believe I was the high scorer of a song, with a 7!

Also, as a resident DisneyMania series nerd (remember a kiiRate of some kind for the series is in the cards for my future on PJ) her version of 'Someday My Prince Will Come' is both nothingny & too busy.... which is a real achievement. Ultimately I just find it kind of grating, but did give it a 6.9 (because I'm a damn Disney pushover.)

I can't believe I was the high scorer of a song, with a 7!
And I was the second highest scorer with a 6.25 - that song is truly hated, it seems.

NOT me forgetting completely about the commentary rule and writing commentary for nearly every song dddd.

(In fairness all my commentary is reasonably detailed.)
I think there are no exact rules regarding the commentary. Pretty sure I asked @Sprockrooster before and he said it's completely fine to write as much commentary as we want to (even though most of mine have very little to no personal meaning... so far).

I'd consider that song extremely lucky if it reaches top 100, to be honest.

My three lowest scores left first, but in the wrong order.

Mi Negra, Tu Bombón - 4.8. This probably would have gotten more in another context, but in the context of this rate it's a bit too frantic at the start, and there's not much Anastacia.

Someday My Prince Will Come - 4. My lowest score. For such a romantic song I don't get any romance from it and the production is bland.

Baptize My Soul - 4.5. The production doesn't really go anywhere and the metaphor of the title and chorus doesn't appeal to me at all.

NOT me forgetting completely about the commentary rule and writing commentary for nearly every song dddd.

(In fairness all my commentary is reasonably detailed, so at least it fulfils the “meaningful” criterion.)
No worries. You were not the only one with more commentary. Nice to bounce of things against. I felt bad saying commentary needed to be deleted as it did caused work for you all.

he/him
It's like how I kind of just wanted people to take it easy with commentary for the Moviejustice Rate and so far only a few people sent in commentary anyway for all their picks and now when I do the reveals it'll be kind of odd only having comments on a small percentage of the movies. Kind of scammed myself there.

Another optional goes. From the same era as the previous one. OUCH! I love how both non-consistent and consisten it's trajectory was.

This demo beating out b-side Baptize My Soul is lowkey iconic. Even in demo form it still proves to be a little bit more loved (we jump in average by 0,3). Imagine if it was actually mastered. Perhaps a 6+ average would have been possible. And before anyone comes and says this feat is not that big cause Baptize My Soul basically sounds a demo too, I say to you give this girl her moment. When this leaked in the 10’s as a 90’s demo I was still stanning. There was some musical drought going on from this woman. To be fair she was battling a second time breast cancer. But also the latest release (It’s A Man’s World) wasn’t exactly keeping me fed. And this sugarsweet song was just what I needed at the time. Simple but effective. However Stupid Little Things was right around the corner so this not only got eclipsed fast but also forgotten until I started planning this rate and @Maki reminding the song exists ddd. Speaking of @Maki, he says "A cutie. It nearly veers into teen/bubblegum pop in the chorus and remains charming throughout. The verses and middle-8 are okay, but the catchy chorus is what I like the most about this song. Could've been a nice album track or at least a B-side, but it didn't really deserve to remains officially unreleased." @londonrain makes a good point though hence why gave this a pretty average score: "This is weirdly emotionless considering the subject matter."

I low-key prefer sending in commentary because when the song is finally eliminated it’s nice to remind myself of the logic behind me giving it the score I did.

(And sometimes I totally forget which song is which. I might have forgotten that Baptize My Soul was the “manifest the D” song if it weren’t for my commentary.)
